Comeng sighted with Connex fronts?!

  Connex Station Master

Around 10 minutes ago, I saw a Comeng set near Beaconsfield which had Connex-like stripes on the front of the cabs! It didn't have a Connex logo on the top, but rather a PTV logo where the blue & yellow stripes were. The rear carriage of the train was 493M.

Has anyone else seen this set?

Tis a refurb... expect more to start appearing.

Thanks for the information. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the new design (should have stuck with the old one.)

Cannot believe they went with that hideous livery.

ah I see the government is rolling out a PT livery of every thing because similar ones exist on the buses and trams
(you could say that they are 'standardising', unintended)

Standardisation of PT livery is a good thing imho, and should have lead to public take over.

I think the EDI refurb front is an improvement over the current livery.  However, the Alstom refurb has too much yellow above the windows.  Perhaps the PTV logo could be moved there?

Hey here is a video someone posted on interior of the new refreshed comeng trains. Its worth a quick watch Smile

@Mr Gus Meister
You mean newly refurbished V-line train. It would be nice to see an actual new updated model of the Long-Haul V-locities, I wonder how that is going.

I know the yellow and purple don't match, but the rest of the carriage look alright. Just the yellow and purple don't match. But still looks nice on the side. But That YELLOW and PURPLE just sets me up. No James it still looks nice if you forget the front of the train. I can't get the yellow and purple outta my head. SCREW YOU DESIGNERS.

What colour instead of yellow would work? White?

Yes, like on the trams, buses and coaches.

Yellow is required.

Yellow is proven to be the easiest colour for the eyes to pick up in poor light. For this reason Victoria has it as almost a rule that all locomotives (as well as leading cabs on DMUs and EMUs) must have a large amount of Yellow on the front for visibility purposes.

While its not a specific policy (at least as far as I know), it is treated as such.

So Yellow must be there.

Purple is required.

Purple is the PTV code colour for regional public transport. Just the same as blue is the colour for metropolitan rail, green for trams, orange for local buses.

So Purple must be there.

Mix those two requirements together and you get Yellow and Purple.

I think we just have to get used to it. More N class will follow, who knows, maybe even A66 will get the PTV treatment.

I like the geometric design on the side.

We will just get use to it. In the UK they have had some interesting colour combinations for branding purposes.

Hey at least it is different and noticeable!

So that's why the trains have yellow fronts, even velocities and the new metro trains have a touch of yellow. That makes a lot of sense.

Exactly.

If you recall the original VLocity livery was grey, black, green and purple with no yellow at all, that was added a few years later to increase their visibility.

N class, VLocity, Sprinter, A66, NR class, 93 class, Siemens, Xtrap, Comeng, XPT etc. Just about everything you see carrying passengers will have a noticeable amount of yellow on the front these days, with the exception of a few heritage locomotives, PN's Ghan liveried NRs and old V/Line stock that haven't had a repaint in a long time. Although that last one might not apply anymore as I believe the P class have all been withdrawn, which means all mainline V/Line locomotives now have yellow.

Again, I doubt it has been written is an actual policy anywhere, its just standard practice.

Also, you will most likely find that the yellow on the front of the N class, and the Comeng in the new PTV livery is reflective. Adding to the visibility.

So,
Trams are green
Busses are orange
Trains are Blue
Regional is Purple.

Either, they change the regional colour of purple on all network mapc ect. or they can mix the two colours differently. Same with the Connex front. Or you just get used to it.
