OK no tin hat for me.

Not everyone uses RP, fair comment. But suitable to use to pass the collection plate around.
It's called pooing in your nest.

The link to the page worked for me and i have just one question !

Why wasn't this facebook page created years ago instead of less than three weeks ago (14/01/18) while everyone with an interest were asking questions but kept in the dark ?

I thoroughly tested this prior to my post and successfully viewed the page without logging in.

But you are correct... Facebook is now locking it down.
Unfortunately it seems you may now need to be a member of Facebook.

Not everyone uses Railpage... so yes, we need to go and find information ourselves sometimes.

But at least one does not have to login to Railpage to see the news (or lack thereof) - unlike Farcebook.

Hi all,

For anyone who wants to keep up on the progress of the loco, view their Facebook page here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/184532572293583/

No, you don't need to be a member of Facebook.
No, you won't be tracked, followed or recorded.
Yes, you can keep your tin hat on.

Not everyone uses Railpage... so yes, we need to go and find information ourselves sometimes.

Keep the link above bookmarked and check back in every-so-often.

It might just change your minds based on the work that's actually being done!
steven_h

You just don't get it, do you?
You, and others, seem to believe that we should search everywhere to find answers about 766.
And you tell us, "Not everyone uses Railpage"
You know perfectly well that Railpage exists, and that a huge amount of interest has been shown here for abslutely no result.
The audacity of people who tell us to "go somewhere else for information, but give us your money" is breathtaking.

OK - if we want to know, we'll look up your reference.
If we want to donate money, we'll give it to groups who have the common courtesy to treat us as though we exist, instead of suddenly appearing after many years with requests for cash.
The total lack of elementary good manners, and complete absence of any public relations at all, will drive the thinking man somewhere else.
The world isn't going to beat a path to R766's door. Don't waste your time wondering why.

I am in no way affiliated with the group or their Facebook page.
I don't expect you to search... I've provided a link so that everyone else who comes here can find more information.

I've also offered to help start up a blog for their progress.
Very similar to how 6029 was managed... did you ever visit their blog?

In the meantime... Facebook presents a very clean and simple method for keeping us updated on their progress and I, for one, am glad that we finally have a channel to view it!

Meanwhile, I don't see it as audacity to ask you to click a link to view the progress... it's up to their side how they promote and I am in total agreement that they need to manage their PR better.

But to post so much anger when presented with a method to find out more about the project... is that good manners?

Neither do I. You were not accused of audacity; R766 was. I suggest that rather than ask us to view, you, in fact, invited us.

"steven-h"
Anger? My comments were presented in concise, colloquial English and were critical of R766, as is my right. You need to understand that criticism does not equate to anger.

What is it with rail preservation groups?

If they want your money they try to avoid telling you what it is being used for...

When you offer them money they look at you strange & old guard types think you are a threat...

Ever since R766 first started this begging for money I've started to feel like an unwanted interloper... someone that should just give them my credit card details & go away...

Mind you... I've now offered money to kick off some work on the Silver City Comet... can't say I was made any more welcome by some RTM diehards.

I'm coming to the conclusion that being fond of trains doesn't help develop an outgoing personality...

And to add to that... given they are asking for $75000 did they think that they were going to raise that in lumps of $20 or $50 or were they counting on a decent number contributing larger amounts, as in $1000 or more? Those who are able and inclines to hand over $1000 or more most likely worked hard to have that amount of money to donate. They most likely aren't fools, and they are unlikely to be soft touches waiting to be conned out of that money.

Like a good woman I want to be wooed... you want my money... then show some respect. If you want to continue acting like rude pigs, then I'll take my tin hat and go...

Just to clarify: A 'tin foil hat' (yes, I missed out 'foil' in my original post) is used by someone who is suspicious of other companies motives on the internet. This was therefore used in my list of points to indicate that you could get to the updates on Facebook without being monitored; as Facebook likes monitoring and not everyone is happy with their principles.

I was in no way attacking anyone's intelligence here... and has stated, I am not affiliated.
If my post above is seen as 'rude' to you then it's my fault, not R766's.

Steven,

I've been on Facebook since 2008. I don't think it is funny taking the p!ss out of people who choose not to use Facebook.

And I was aware of the Facebook page. That Facebook page is so uninformative that I pretty much gave up going back to it. That is no criticism of you but that group needs to understand that people aren't idiots, they don't sit & wait for the next dribble of information is released. They walk away... My questions have always been very simple... Boiler ticket status? Stay repair cost? Video of it being steamed... answer those money flows.... hey that rhymes...

A bit late now of course, but those associated with R766 could have looked to the example of those behind the restoration of 6029 in regard to getting their news across during the course of the job.

A member of the latter started a thread on RP back in 2008, complete with a link to their blog in the very first post.

https://www.railpage.com.au/f-t11344590-0-asc-s0.htm

and the blog - http://blog.project6029.com/

As to R766, what have we seen since the job started? Not much, until a funding request popped up, and the FB group is an even more recent addition. Bit late when the job is said to be 'complete' except for an ICE Radio, and a 'few stays'.

I suspect this thread has a limited life as the tone is approaching that of the great 3801 Ltd vs RTM thread some years back. I don't think anyone wishes to revisit that argument.

It would seem, to me anyway, so simple to actually release some REAL FACTS. No half truths, misleading statements, lies or spin all of these are reserved for politicians.

We are not at war (are we?) so what is the need for such secrecy? There can only be a few reasons:

  • Arrogance
  • Incompetence
  • Something to hide

Yes, and some good photos too.

All retrospective of course, given that the page has only existed for a month.

And one interesting post there.....suggesting that they set up a Blog to let the wider community know...... !!
