Well, after yesterday's train trundling along a re-vamped, track and arriving at Merbein, I reckon that is a Momentous day, for the pages of the Victorian Rail History.

The last major rail renaissance, would have been, the RFR, 15ish years, ago.

How many decades/more than century, has the broad gauge issue been, debated about and how could it be fixed and at last a government has taken some responsibility and solved the problem.

The train may have only traveled at a speed, some of could match, with our 10 speed Malvern Star, in six months time, with any luck, trains will be barreling along at 80 kph.

Hopefully, this project will turn the corner for rail freight in regional Victoria and we see an increase in rail traffic, with more competitors in the market, an increase in axle loading at decent line speed.

I'm still partially stunned, that they have virtually rebuilt the line, between Ararat and Maryborough and showing that there is still some will, in government departments to revive, rail infrastructure in regional Victoria.

Well done, to the Andrews government, Liberal party, wake up, look at what can be done, if ya get ya hands out of your pockets or off your hips and use, them !

Wasn't the Murray Basin project a National / Liberal party idea that the ALP decided to run with once elected?

And didn't the Federal (Liberal) government fund 50% of it?

Anybody can come up with a brain storming idea, but unless you get on with and complete it, who cares.
The Liberal party, had the wheel, before Andrews and did nothing except stall, any rail project.

The current govt, put the plan into action and are well on the way to completing the job.

RFR Labour !

Regional Rail Link: Started under Labor, completely stuffed by the Liberals

Edit: Regional Fast Rail, was completed by Labor, but they hamstrung the Bendigo and Gippsland Lines.

The Liberal Government nobbled the RRL deliberately in my view.  Let's get back on topic.

The Gippsland line did very well out of the Regional Fast Rail upgrade.

The original scope was grander, with the Bunyip - Longwarry duplication and metropolitan works, that got dumped due to lack of funding.

The Vinelander senior...AKA my father went out to Wakefields at Merbein this afternoon after an hour or so of table tennis at the Senior Citizens...but I digress.

Lots of party frocks (hi-vis), a media contingent, local Nat MP Peter Crisp basking in the glory and Ken Wakefield looking happy who had a chat with dad as they go back to dads Vinelander travelling days.

Whilst the media were there a Melbourne bound freight was ready to leave around 14:00...I think dad got somewhat caught up in the moment at Merbein today.

The Libs killed 3801 too...

Don't blame Lindy & the Dingo... the Libs took Azaria...

The Libs shot JFK... and JR... and Elvis...

Great news that SG has reached Mildura after many years of talk. Shame that we can't enjoy the moment without party politics raining on the parade.
