Upon arriving at Newcastle in the presence of a large crowd, 8070 passed through the tape and Sydney to Newcastle electric services were officially declared "open". The first 4 cars of the first official train (U35) were deliberately assembled from the newest cars and trailers available from the new 7/82 contract and featured the new SRA white and candy stripe livery.
