Coogee Passing Loop

I remember the Coogee loop being mentioned somewhere in the forum when it was put in but I can't find it.  The passing loop was put in around Coogee Marina under Cockburn Road bridge by turning the narrow gauge duel gauge for a distance.  I also remember that a bit of money was spent on this the idea being to increase the freight traffic to the port.  I live next to the line between the passing loop and south beach single section and by the timing of trains passing I wonder if the passing loop is ever used.  Has anyone ever seen this in use or was it just another waste of money.

As a side thing, when this was being put in I wondered why they did not double track duel gauge all the way from the Junction at Bibra Lake to south beach, that meant that you could have had trains passing on the go and this would have increased traffic greatly.  I read somewhere recently that Watco moved enough containers in a year to Fremantle to take 100,000 truck movements off the road, if this was trebled the discussion about Roe 8 and Leach Hwy would go away, but our Governments are not rail minded.

Is there any narrow gauge freight traffic on the goods line between Birba Lake and the Fremantle North Wharf Port ?

The only narrow gauge traffic I have seen in the last 12 months was a rail maintenance train which I think was making its way to the freo to perth line for night work.  There may still be some rail stock trains running to Leighton?

They could double track the standard gauge and have 1 of the tracks duel gauge bi-directional for maintenance trains?
