The Snowy Monaro Regional Council is considering the viability of rebuilding the defunct railway line from Queanbeyan to Bombala - with the possibility of continuing the line through to the Port of Eden.

Basically the previous discussion said there was no chance such a railway ever making a dollar or even a subsidised dollar as there is too little freight over too hilly a railway and the railway they had/have, stopped carrying any reasonable freight volumes decades ago and hence closed. Even Canberra which currently has no freight traffic but all previous and currently proposed freight tasks head towards Sydney.

Port of Eden, currently moves 1mtpa, so its not a major destination. Most of its exports are timber based products which while some come from the Cooma-Bombala region, overall timber has not been kind to rail Australia wide and why would things change here?

Note: I would love to see this get up personally, but the usual question, who will pay?
