***edit - have I ever told you how much I love V/Line? Train rolled in, 6 cars instead of the usual 3, no school kids and we are now rocketing through Taradale on the world's fasted path!!! Apparently the cancellations were caused by a police incident near Bendigo***

Bendigo Cup Day and of course it is chaos on the Bendigo Line with cancellations the firm favorite this afternoon. There are bewildered pax a plenty waiting on the platform at Castlemaine, can't wait to see how many tired and emmotionals are already on the 17.07 Up when it finally rolls in, it is already late. The Dn Flagship has been cancelled along with the afternoon Swan Hill AFAIK

A very good update BG and one which was sure to cause a lot of punters on the big day a lot of heartbreak.  Unfortunately we see this all too often.  You dont have to go back far to remember the disaster of the Oaks Day under Connex and also Metro Trains.

Incidentally all Swan Hill services are being truncated at Bendigo today and were yesterday afternoon.  What's the go?

Yep, I am on the 07.41 Down which is a 3 car V/Locity terminating at The Go. Hearing that V/Line are "worried about the heat".

If that is true it is going to be a LOONNNGGGGG hot summer for Swan Hill pax

I thought that might be the case.  The Swan Hill line is largely forgotten since it's in a safe Coalition seat. I can imagine it being the last holdout of V/Line's loco and carriage fleet next decade.

Blame “Towards 92”. V/Line management have ordered on-time running at all costs, even if it means sacrificing services...

Classic example was Wednesday's 1416 Ararat service.
There was no driver on the train. Manpower was notified and a standby driver was sought. The driver got to the train at 1425.

Despite there then being a driver in place and the train being ready to roll, it was decided to cancel the service to avoid having a late departure.

That really is pathetic. Time to get it out in the media so that the Minister might act. Surely she will do something given it's only 3 weeks until an election?

It'll bite them in the backside if nothing is done about such idiocy.

Interesting article in Bgo Addy today: https://www.bendigoadvertiser.com.au/story/5737689/maintenance-required-for-bendigo-trains-after-crashes-with-animals/

Apparently 65% of trains involved in animal strikes get dragged off for maintenance and biowash for 1-2 days...

As an idea for you Carnot , a very good friend of mine who worked for a government department once told me ; if you want action from government when an election is coming up , contact a local opposition member of parliament and opposition portfolio member to raise the issue .
Funny things happen when an election is about to be held

Cancellations and service reductions en masse tonight on the Bendigo line. Long weekend anyone?

Hopefully not for the maintenance fitters, considering the backlog of defects.

Incidentally, one of the buses replacing yesterday evening's Bendigo flagship express broke down on the Calder Fwy...  Should've waited for the next train.

This takes the cake for stupidity for whoever did this in Malmsbury last week:

Also, most of Vic does not have a holiday today but has to tolerate a Saturday timetable instead.

Cup day is a public holiday state wide unless another day is substituted for it locally.

Which is the case in Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo (and many other of the major centres serviced by V/Line). Good luck to those who had to get to work on time, the Saturday down services start much later than the weekday ones.

Sprinter carked it at Broadmeadows this afternoon causing delays to Metro services. Unusual.

From what I've gathered from friends, some part of 7013 started smoking or was on fire. May have been the air con as it spread through out the car quickly. Apparently it was getting bad, people were contemplating pulling the emergency door release as the conductor was in a different sprinter and it seemed that nothing was being done about the smoke, even after people called 000.

7013 is still meant to be sitting on the siding at Broadmeadows.

Did 7013 try to do an impersonation of 7012 which burst into flames at Seymour nearly two years ago?

Apparently no visible flames so it wasn't as 'vigorous', but I guess it just tried to copy its little brother.
Jealous of the rebuild and repaint perhaps?

Another Vline generated tweet storm yesterday evening on the Bendigo line:

Flagship Express canned yet again for the umpteenth time this month:

And the subsequent Kyneton Down canned just 3 minutes before it was due to depart:

And the next train ended up bypassing intermediate stations:

Dear oh dear....
