If it was to change back, would SCS then become SSS ?............. reminds me of BG's last vehicle... a Datsun 180B SSS Coupe.....The 180B SSS was quite an awesome vehicle in its day; quick with nice handling. They flew mostly under the radar, as most Australians were far too consumed by the local version of american iron to notice.

How about getting Yarra Trams to realise that Etihad Stadium is now Marvel Stadium? Destination signs, timetables etc havent been updated yet and its been months

They did well in rallying as well
Confirming schedules with the travel agent yesterday and getting to the $$ part of the trip, I was advised there will be buses for some part of the rail journey between Hamburg and Copenhagen...in the high Summer tourist seasonI was dismayed by that too, really wanted to do that train ferry. Decided to go the long way round via Fredericia instead. And there's a rail museum at Odense.![]()

Great story Mike. Last Thursday? Did you drop into Castlemaine Station? That was the day that the Royal Train arrived from Seymour behind the B and the S class with T333 in tow being returned to the VGR. Was a very exciting day indeed!
Last Thursday week was such a nice day and the buses on the Ballarat line.......I took a sickie and took her for a drive to Castlemaine and had a reminisce around Barker St...bought some pies etc from McShanaugh's and went and visited all the relo's and my mum at Harcourt cemetery. Went for a drive up to the Res and bought some nice honey from a roadside stall in North Harcourt and some things at the IGA before heading home...contemplating life and how damn short it is
Mike.
Are you sure you aren't confusing the 180B with the Datsun 1600 which was tough as nails as a rally car.Talk about High Jacking a thread.....Planes, Trains, Automobiles.......even an old stinkin' 180B SSS, you can find it all out on RP.
Now we are completely off track...
The SSS had an independent rear end whereas the Aussie built 180B had a solid rear axle. The SSS was so noisy to travel in with the interior air pressure pushing the windows out of the rubber around the doors as they were frameless doors, mine was a 4 speed, the 5 speed being released in '74.
Very tough engine, but looking back with lots of hindsight and if I was a few years older, I'd have bought my Pacer new, fully optioned like it is now...factory air etc....but then I was such a hoon I'd have probably killed myself in it.
Mike.
Nup, no confusion. The 1600 was a highly successful rally car as well, and still being rallied (and competitive) at club levelThe 180B SSS was quite an awesome vehicle in its day; quick with nice handling. They flew mostly under the radar, as most Australians were far too consumed by the local version of american iron to notice.

Glad you are a McShanag's man BTW, I love their Cornish Pasties even though the shape is not as traditional as the ones from my youth on the Yorke Peninsula SA.

I was curious about this, and a quick look at the DB website (*) suggests that there is no passenger service over the Strostrom Bridge. All through services between Roedby and Copenhagen is by bus; you could do part of the journey by rail, but there is a bus connection Nykoebing and Naestved (past the bridge). If you wanted to do this by rail you'd have to specifically request routing via Flensburg and Holding - it's the same cost, but about two hours slower, and there's only about three trains a day.
(*) If you haven't used it, the DB website (https://www.bahn.de) is excellent for travelling in Europe. It's easy to use and the English version is excellent.
I guess that means no train ride onto the Ferry at Puttgarden then. Its quite an experience.Confirming schedules with the travel agent yesterday and getting to the $$ part of the trip, I was advised there will be buses for some part of the rail journey between Hamburg and Copenhagen...in the high Summer tourist season

Already booked through an agent and I don't trust myself even contemplating booking with foreign railways when I haven't already been there first, but thanks for the info.
Apparently the bus part is from:
bus Roedby 12:25 PM to Copenhagen, 2:40 PM, 13 Jul 19.

I do 95% of my overseas travel myself on the net. I do not trust agents, most are useless. The DB website is marvellous but while it gives information you need to go to other sites to book outside Germany.Confirming schedules with the travel agent yesterday and getting to the $$ part of the trip, I was advised there will be buses for some part of the rail journey between Hamburg and Copenhagen...in the high Summer tourist season

I do not trust agents, most are useless. When you come to Melbourne, I'll introduce you to the best one there is.

(Not sure what this has to do with Melbourne Rail stations)
You must be one of the lucky ones who deals with a Sole Trader as against those who have to toe the line of their Multnnational bosses.I do not trust agents, most are useless. When you come to Melbourne, I'll introduce you to the best one there is.
She has done all the flights, hotels, trains, transfers et al for me on three previous trips, and has just booked the flights for the fourth one next July.
She has also booked for both my sons and their better halves; one pair of whom are in France as I write. This is the fifth time she's done their bookings.
Not one thing has gone wrong with any of her work, and I wouldn't attempt to do it myself. The business class deals she gets on air fares are nothing short of amazing, and they're not with fly-by-night carriers either - try Qantas, Cathay, Lufthansa and Finnair to name a few.
You must be one of the lucky ones who deals with a Sole Trader as against those who have to toe the line of their Multnnational bosses. Not a bit of it. The mob she works for has five offices in Melbourne and suburbs. The office I go to has at least four travel planners in the office every weekday, and a couple on Saturday mornings.
I have often done more than 6 countries in a trip. Currently early planning (no bookings so far) for next year - Rumania, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Hungary and Austria. Went to Greece way back in 1980, Rumania & Bulgaria (day trip) on a Danube cruise in 2016 (Did use an agent in Chicago to book that cruise because Avalon would not take direct bookings). Have visited Hungary twice (once by myself in 2000 and then on the same cruise as mentioned). Regularly visit Vienna.I do 95% of my overseas travel myself on the net. I've already booked flights and English travel (British Rail pass) myself, however when it comes to the complexities of travelling through 6 countries, I'm not tackling that many headed hydra when I've never been there...so calling agents 'useless' is a very broad statement that should be backed up with evidence.
It has nothing more to do with Melbourne rail stations than classic cars and Cornish pasties...feel free to move on...
Mike.
It's within walking distance from the docks. I think naming a station after a landmark or an area, is better alternative than a street name. It gives you a better indication where it's located. There are multiple streets across Melbourne with similiar names. Whereas suburbs and landmarks have specific names.Honestly the name shouldn't be Southern cross or Spencer street. The station should be renamed to Docklands. It's not at Southern Cross. It's not at the docks. It is on Spencer Street.
