Vegan Activists are Mad

  justapassenger Minister for Railways

You've got to give them credit for standing up for what they believe in, I reckon most of the soapbox orators here wouldn't have the courage to do the same.  As far as causes go, it's pretty benign.

This is what I was getting at earlier in the thread where I contrasted this sort of protest with the self-promotional approach used by PeTA.

It's a shame, however, that this group didn't have the brains to back up the balls. Without clear communication from an articulate spokesperson, there was never any chance of this protest stimulating any exchange of ideas.

Just a cult, plain and simple. Got thrown out by my own mother after she went vegan because I posted an image of dinner I made one night on Facebook.

Vegans are truly off their heads and have lost touch with actual reality. Close the farms and what's gonna happen? Millions of head of livestock would die because there's no farmers to feed and look after them. Would all these vegans who force trucks off the road to 'save' animals heading for the abbatoir or the idiots who just plain pissed everyone else with their 'protest' take on looking after all that livestock? Don't think so.

Bleeding heart idealists are the absolute worst.

Just looked at the news.com.au site and the second story was about a vegan diet, looking at advantages and disadvantages. That story wouldnt have been there but for yesterday's events. The vegans have just got publicity worth well beyond what they could afford. Big win for them I'd say.

Still generates some for slaughter, but unslaughtered cattle are useful for cheese, I would say milk, but I hardly use milk and don't regard it as being that useful unless turned into cheese...

But vegans don't want cheese either.

At least they don't have the age old problem of "what do you want to eat tonight?"   - It is the same tasteless cr@p no matter what they have.

BTW, I'm not forcing or demanding them to eat meat, they can eat what they want.

Don't mind eating tofu, lentils, kale,,,,,, just not everyday.
Likewise, couldn't consume BBQ ribs everyday either. But in the interest of science, curious as to how long it may take eating said ribs, to utter the words, Geez, hanging for some tofu. Laughing

One of them was stupid enough to say on 7 News that they don't care if people don't like them.

I knew someone would fall into this trap. You can't see the fundamental difference?
Today's protest is properly planned in advance, and organised with cooperation from police, public transport et al; just the same as Moomba or Anzac Day or any other marches, fun runs etc. Monday's affair was a mob of fanatics plonking themselves in a major intersection with no warning at all. There's no similarity whatsoever.

I think we should look for the wider positives here........

With everyone around the country directing their faux outrage and memes at the vegans, it gives the muslims a break for a couple of weeks Razz

Ha ha ha. Predictable comment every time veganism is discussed on like every forum on the internet.

I rarely post my own political views here but im in the camp that thinks that activism is too generous a term for these people.  Terrorists isn't quite right but is closer in definition to activism to describe these people.

Yes there is a role to play to make sure the rough and ready operators on the margins of industry dont unnecessarily and sadistically abuse animals - but at the same time the unnecessary and sadistic abuse of businesses that for the most part care for their animals is unacceptable.

Closer to terrorists than activists?

I think she just used it as an excuse to throw you out.

Saying that most vegans are off their head is like saying most Catholics are paedophiles, most Muslims are terrorists or most Germans were Nazis. Most Vegans just don't eat animal products. That's it. Most of them don't block city intersections.

Why does this even have to be explained?

Well triggered Mr. Lane but not knowing what actually happened (considering I was rebuilding part of the house for them there was no reason to kick me out, I paid rent on time) so many outspoken vegans truly are off their heads with the antics they pull and their attitude towards other people. Ever been told you're going to die of bowel cancer because of what you choose to eat? Ever been told by someone they'll see you at your funeral because of what you eat?

It really is a way for people to just shout down others from a falsely perceived sense of entitlement just like when hybrids first showed up or any other 'I'm better than you' trend. Shame this one turned into such a hateful cult.

I would not do this deliberately in front of any vegan, only these nutjobs that demand I change my eating habits to follow their particular cult of craziness.   I don't care if they are vegan, just don't tell me I cannot eat bacon.
  DJPeters Deputy Commissioner

My late father died of bowel cancer and I almost did as well luckily for me it was just a tumor that could be cut out, but 18 months later I had to go the full monty and have another one removed and got a full stoma again permanently for the rest of my life. But what you eat really does not give or make cancer any worse so I call BS to anyone that says it will.  Cancer can be in your genes if someone in your family had it that was a close relative then more than likely you will get it, sometimes not, but it can skip a generation or even generations and suddenly return.

What these idiots fail to realise it that no one lives for ever and sooner or later even those on a vegan diet are going to die, not because of what they have or they have not eaten but simply because their body gets to the point where the body and what is inside it just gives up and you pass away. It is called life and you never know when the time comes in most instances.

I'm sure they realise they're going to die anyway, but would say this is a case of it not being the destination that counts, but the journey. And, why not make the journey as long as possible. Not that I'd agree with them.

It has become a cult.  These activists on the street today are really a bunch of thieving extortionists, narcissists, and anarchists.
Veganism is a cult, but their ritualistic sacrificing of sweet potatoes are pretty boring.

Isn't there a large TV screen or similar in the centre of Melbourne? I am thinking there's a specific scene from Apocalypse Now that could be played up there - that'd make them go

These people trying to save us all are simply deluded.

However, the global demand for middle class (meat) protein is exponentially growing. Raising animals to feed us isn't exactly the most efficient use of resources and those resources are finite. Costs and supply will put 'meat' out of reach of many anyway. Crumbed lamb cutlets were once hardly considered a luxury.
