V/Line – Around the traps

News article: V/Line - Around the traps

Once again V/Line were found again not following their own policies and procedures when it came to vacant positions and recruitment.

I don't know about the unions and rail they seem to try and suck every last drop of cash out of the operators.  This article states staff at Shep were asked to do a push back which was not in the JD and with more money and an upgrade of their position they will now do it.

Also the shep yard fencing is not good with reports of people crossing the tracks day and night. Is there not an overpass?

Now v/Line will need to install new fencing.

Of course, there are no instances of operators trying the wring a bit more out of the work force! You've just quoted one. The operator asks people to do work outside their Job Description which they decline to do, and somehow you say the Union is the villain. What happens if they do the work and something goes wrong? Who carries the can? Pretty obviously it will be the blokes who did work outside their specified duties, because it can be proven that that's what happened. Is the operator going to put his hand up and say that it's all his fault because he had requested the action? Yeah, sure; and pigs will fly.

Last time I was over at Shep there was NO fence at all along Baker st (Melbourne end of the yard South side) and there was a clear walking track across the yard. THe only way across the tracks is via the High st level crossing and thats more than a 300 metre walk from the station to High st, no wonder people are crossing the tracks. An over pass at the down end would be ideal.

X31 can change the subject to lower case.

Thanks for describing what 'JD' is btw.

These days management have an expectation that in our lunch breaks we will attend staff meetings and eat our lunch there. Young people accept it, but I think it's the thin edge of the wedge therefore I don't attend meetings called between 12 noon and 14:00.

Fortunately being a grumpy old ba$tard in our dept I can get away with it.

I can say that I saw the northern side fences being broken by trespassers and rather quickly repaired.
People trespassing and breaking into the yard is a thing of the past. Long ago.

As for stabling, the current arrangement is short sighted. Stabling needs to be secured like it is at Echuca.

Yes, the City of Greater Shepparton would like an overpass -you can find the Masterplan for the rail redevelopment here.

Ah; meetings - the practical alternative to work.

This is about where I saw the fences broken into, and the repair job: (to the left of the gates ... )

As mentioned earlier, there is fencing along the Baker St side, which reaches to High Street level crossing: (bit of zoom)

Behold, on the Johnson St side, there is no fencing from Hayes St level crossing to the former storage shed:
(lots of spoils although... that's what you see when you come into Shepparton, quite a few mounds of spoils )

And here is a casual trespasser ... while I was taking photos

and so the fencing does go ... on ...
