The Broken Hill Explorer operates weekly on Mondays from Sydney...

The bus operates on other days.

The clunky NSWGR website refuses to supply a pdf for the bus....suffice to say its 3 hours longer travel time than the train.

There is a PDF timetable freely available for all Western services. The coach Dubbo-Broken Hill runs daily via Cobar, including the days that the train runs. The only station between Parkes and Broken Hill served by road coach is Condobolin, 3 days per week, while four other stations only get the weekly Broken Hill Xplorer.

Ok figures time. They're old but can't seem to find any more recent.

2012-13

Train

SYD BH- 5581
BH SYD - 4561

Coach

Dubbo BH - 10100
BH Dubbo - 8309

Not much point comparing these figures, since the train and road coach serve different routes, and the only town in common is Broken Hill.

Have you see the population figures for those other towns? Wilcannia at just over 500 is one of the biggest.

I've spent a bit of time at Narromine, Trangie and one or two others out that way, I meant before that the locations the train goes through. As the train and road follow two very different paths, its not that practical to stop the bus and passenger services along the Dubbi to Cobar railway died out decades ago so that wasn't a winner.

If you’ve lived out that way, you ought to know that the train doesn’t go to Wilcannia.Laughing

Great write up.

I have been on the IP to kal from Perth, but never on a prospector.

In my view, BH residents would have better access to Adelaide than Sydney but what sit up class remains on the IP?
