Hello all, I'm new to posting threads and I can't say that I'm very switched on to the world of computers so I'll be leaving myself open to ridicule from experenced users from this site but recently there was a news article about the possiabality of a 6 hour run from Sydney to Melbourne.
Whilst this won't complete with airport to airport travel times the potential for anyone travelling to either capital along this strech of corridor with these transit times are a vast improvement and attractive to passengers (Goulburn/Syd)

Mundrabilla thankfully posted the link to the paper which outlined the proposal that was linked to the news article as I'm a joke at using technology (apparently I should of posted this originaly on a established thread such as this)

Would this be possible or is it all academic?

Would you need tilting trains to achieve a 6-7hr SYD-MEL transit time with a realignment  or could the new NSW regional fleet be able to achieve a similar time if allowed to run at their supposed potential?

(Also if there's any XPT enginemen on here that could give a running time of what could be safely achieved on the current alignment without any bureaucratic interference)

I recall that during the 2019 State Election campaign the Transport Minister did an interview at Moss Vale station and said there would be action on "straightening" the main south.  The interview was short on detail.

I don't get tired of politicians and their promises, for the simple fact they all say one thing and always do the opposite, its 9999% the reason I don't listen nor read what they say, been involved with all sides of the political spectrum in the past in this state and they are all the same.

What's the difference between a politician and a parliamentarian?   The former comes out around election time and maybe found lurking around his office when away from the parliament house.  The latter arrives at Parliament to enjoy the privileges granted to them by the tax payers and they enjoy their festive times there taking the electorate as suckers, by spin.

Not sure if Gladys is in the old mould of a dishonest politician or not...however in Victoria our Premier has set a very high bar regards political credibility, government and election commitments/promises.

I think it's important that be said.

Gladys promised a new railway to the north west and has delivered and she is also building the metro in to the CBD which is more then what the libs actually promised. Metro west will start within this next term of government. They promised the bathurst bullet and delivered and will soon have a second service to / from bathurst.

Gladys promised the north connex, west connex, south east light rail, new rolling stock for suburban, intercity and regional train services and has delivered or is in the process of delivering all these projects. I can't think of something that she promised and hasn't delivered. Some people may not like how these projects are getting done but they are getting done.

6 hours Sydney to Melbourne needs more then tilting trains. It needs significant re alignments of track south of macarthur and west of goulburn. This will need federal funding just not as much as a vhst would need.
