Well there goes that 10 billion
Oh yeah, 2 billion for high-speed rail to Geelong, what a joke. Like that was to happen.

Time will tell if ScoMo is true to his word regards the $2 Billion for the Geelong line., regardless of whether we think it's worthwhile or not.
IMO if he doesn't cough up the funds within the next three years, regardless of the Libs very shaky hold on Corangamite, it will be a broken election promise and he may face the wrath of the state government and the electorate at that time.
Mike.
that miserable SOB Andrews.
Doesn't matter what you think of him or his politics, he's got a bigger mandate to govern than Scott Morrison ever will.
Well there goes that 10 billionYeah, no mid-term MM2 announcement.
Money locked up for the stupid East-West Link.
Very unfortunate for Victorian Transport Infrastructure.

Even the RACV state that that they no longer see the East West Link as a priority ( Channel 9 news tonight )Well there goes that 10 billionYeah, no mid-term MM2 announcement.

This is a good summary, I would add no freight work as mentioned by James.AU which project was this?
East West Link they will use this to put pressure on DAN but really I want to see this go to MM2?
Geelong High Speed Rail is gone and will be reduced and will probably just provide electrification
We have money already committed for the Geelong area works to Waurn Ponds correct?

Premier in Box Hill to announce the start of geotechnical work.https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/suburban-rail-loop-site-investigations-start/
If they are beginning the geotechnical work, I'll bet a steak dinner they've got the route sorted. Barring something like them finding dinosaur fossils or a UFO of course...The first section (Box Hill to Cheltenham) looks to be sandstone in the Northern half, and sand/silt/gravel in the Southern half... The latter could be fun and games to tunnel through.
The sandstone is a snack, that silt would make it a nightmare. If they are beginning the geotechnical work, I'll bet a steak dinner they've got the route sorted. I could see them using the geotechnical surveys as a way of justifying removing the Glen Waverley kink and going straighter between Monash and Burwood.
I still find it a bit upsetting that this is getting prioritised over Metro 2.
The project will include 16 stations, with a new map of the project released on Tuesday showing a potential new interchange station at Wyndham Vale.
Hope Glen Waverley is dumped. Should IMO be replaced with MONASH > CHADSTONE > HOLMESGLEN > BURWOOD.I can't quite tell if you're serious... route is more direct by going from Monash to Chadstone??? With the rail coming up from Clayton station to the university you're advocating a 90 degree turn to run a huge underground tunnel parallel to an existing railway, but about 2km North. Draw that on a map and it's a giant zig-zag.
Route is more direct, delivers a station to a massive catchment area of Chadstone. Still connects with the GW line. Possibility of connecting Alamein in as well. Chadstone is a bigger and more important hub than GW.
Has there ever been any discussion or plans about this project before this was announced by the Victorian premier?
What does it actually achieve?
Are there better projects to spend money on?
With this being a 50 year project what will happen if the state libs get elected in 2026 or a future election?
Is it just a vanity project to out do the Metro projects being built Sydney?
Why isn't metro 2 being planned instead?
