Loco 1746 plus 7 empty rail wagons departed Quilpie at 0800 Sunday. Lots of re-sleepering going on between Quilpie and Charleville, so looks like a future for this line

I can't imagine that there will be any future for The Great Western Line other than for cattle trains. AFAIK it has been a long time since one ran on the line. Unless the drought breaks it might be a while still before the next one runs, sadly.

I think one ran out to Quilpie about a month ago but that has been the only one for some time. I don't think that siding at Oakey has been used apart from the first train either.
Do you have any news on the future of the Ackland coal mine?

After a shaky start at the beginning of the season, PN's 88 class has now more or less taken over the Wilmar sugar trains between the Burdekin and Townsville Jetty - this afternoon 8803 rolled a loaded sugar train down the Townsville Jetty Branch, one of fourteen sugar trains scheduled for the day.

I tried to count the hoppers in the video, but it didn't run long enough. Do you know how many were in this consist?

Sorry, I didn't count them either, but it appeared to be a regular size consist. I'm pretty sure I've seen a single Class 2300 haul empties before, but maybe it just goes solo part of the way, with another one waiting up the track?

They most likely add a loco in Toowoomba before heading out to either Acland or Cameby Downs for the run back down with a full load.

Could anyone on this thread tell me what has happened to Aurizon's X54? She was put up for sale a while ago and there's been nothing since.

Probably not the place to ask, in the Qld Observations thread, as I doubt X54 has ever been to Qld!

I think you'll find X54 was on freights into Brisbane, so it was worth a punt asking here.

Vicsig lists it as being moved to storage at Rothbury on May 9th, 2019. It had previously been in use at Hexham as a shunt loco for Aurizon's Hunter Valley coal operations during 2018.

Neill Farmer reported the following on QRIG message 54667 on 29 April 2009
Hi, 5BM7 tomorrow, Thursday, is G521+X54+X53. The Cls seem to have been transferred onto East-West duties so we have an all exVR combo tomorrow. Not sure which X is painted QRN but we should have, I think, SCT, FA, and QRN liveries.

Petan: Thankyou. MB/BM freights were exactly what I was referring to (though I think X53/54 tended to do the Sydney-Brisbane leg, though don't quote me on that).

Sulla: Thankyou, too. I'd looked up Vicsig, but that site can get a little out of date. Still a good site though. As is this one, thanks to people like you uploading sightings and info. Anyway, I'll presume poor old X54 is still stored after finding no buyers. Tell you what, why don't you pop over to Rothbury for me, and see if the old girl is still there? Very Happy
