There are unconfirmed reports that I am aware of that W3 would be back in 2020 for the Transport Heritage Expo. It is more sounding unlikely, but they should have her back very soon! It’s the aim.
anyone knows how wide the power cars found on W3 is? i know the DD trailers are slightly less wide than a comeng car S set but for the single deck cars, are there the same as the standard sets when it comes to width? just wondering as i know F1 cant go more than 20 km/h through a platform because of spacing from the platform.Same as the standard suburban, 3.15 metres
This might be an old topic, but I did some research and found that there are far more Bradfield carriages in existence than previously thought, 9 in totalWooden cars both at Rothbury. Yellow "Bugsy" ex HMC is at Molong. Not sure about the Tulloch DD.
Thank you. I did a bit of research and I wasn’t able to find photos of them there, however I did discover that at least one other Bradfield car is at Rothbury. I couldn’t see the car number in the photo but it was a yellow car with two sliding doors, similarly to car C3662. Not sure if it is C3662 though. In the next few decades, instead of creating further standard single deck sets, I would prefer it if they restored and ran a 4-Car Bradfield Set (C3082, T4279, D4004, C36XX) although it would be difficult to restore and maintain. Hopefully, after the U Set is complete and the Chullora Heritage Hub opens, in about a decade or so we will see a full set running the network instead of waiting in the middle of nowhere.
Hearing from several credible sources that the restoration of W3 is in it's final stages, apparently it will be transferred to FMC sometime in January.Try Feb 27th.
Volunteers of Historic Electric Traction group are celebrating after heritage suburban set W3 departed Redfern carriage sheds for the first time in 15 years yesterday. Set W3 was transferred by heritage locomotive to Flemington via Central, where testing and recommissioning works will begin. The restoration of these state-owned heritage carriages has been a five year effort by volunteers of Historic Electric Traction, with support from Transport Heritage NSW and Sydney Trains. Congratulations to all involved on a job well done!Link to Facebook post- https://www.facebook.com/TransportHeritageNSW/photos/a.250757918461310/1580224182181337/
