I need this data for as many sets as possible for a new site I'm working on.
I've been looking for a source of information stating which carriages are with which set numbers and which cars are in storage. For Waratahs, the last two numbers of the car correspond to the set number (both A and B). Only change is D6379 replacing D6342 on A42 as it was damaged at Richmond in 2018.

I'm sure that Wikipedia has this information https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CityRail_fleet as for previous older sets Wikipedia is your best friend, use it wiselyThe problem is that, for example, the first Tangara car, D6101, is on T20 and not on T1.![]()
Very true! The Tangara's are just oddly numbered lolI'm sure that Wikipedia has this information https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CityRail_fleet as for previous older sets Wikipedia is your best friend, use it wiselyThe problem is that, for example, the first Tangara car, D6101, is on T20 and not on T1.![]()
Thanks anyway.
https://nswtrains.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Sydney_Trains/NSW_TrainLink_fleetsYou wouldn't happen to know if there are any spare cars for the B fleet of Waratahs? And I had this little formula to devise the set number from a Mill's car, but I've forgotten where I put it. If i can find it, or remember it, I'll put it up here
I compiled this list for the NSW Railways Wiki, after thoroughly reading over a list of car numbers (from a 2016 post on a Wix website, but updated to current status as some placements changed since then).
Waratahs (both A and B variants) are the easiest to identify, as the last two digits always correspond with the set numbers. Car numbers on A/B sets are written as follows:
A sets: D63?? - N53?? - N55?? - T65?? - T66?? - N56?? - N54?? - D64??
B sets: D11?? - N17?? - N19?? - T13?? - T14?? - N18?? - N16?? - D12??
The sole exception is prototype car D6379, on A42, which is filling in for D6342. That car is said to still be with Downer EDI, but it’s status is currently unknown.
M set cars are usually in a set order, with M1 having the four oldest cars through to M35 having the four newest cars. H sets also follow a similar pattern but with exceptions for some sets.
The Tangara, K, C and V set carriages are a weird case, as they aren’t as easy to identify a set unless if you know exactly which cars that set has. Some Tangara consists are also mismatched or have swapped a carriage out with another.
No spare B set cars as far as I’m aware. For the A sets, the aforementioned D6479 is in storage, as well as Tangara driving trailers D6249 and D6823, previously from ex-ATP sets T13 and T103 respectively. I also saw two V set driver cars at Unipart recently with the previous “Intercity” livery, which I have no idea what they are for.I think the V set cars were withdrawn following an incident. They've been there since at least 2014.
When T13 and T103 returned to service in July this year, D6252 replaced D6249, while D6841 replaced D6823.
Hi there,A sets are Waratah's. B sets are a continuation of the A set design (they were known as SGT during their development) but by the time they were launched, they were called "Waratah Series 2" - the A and B sets have a 90% similarity in their design, so it made sense to label them both Waratahs.
Saw Nicole the Otter post below that says Waratahs are A Sets & B Sets?

I thought A Sets are Waratah and B Sets are SGT (even though B Set are based substantially on A Sets)?
Not very up to date, but see https://trackrecordfl.wixsite.com/trackrecordfl/fleet-listsThat list is from 2016, so some details are now outdated. If you look at T14 and T121's consists, they were listed with their original consists they had prior to the carriage switcheroo with D6252/N5252 and D6808/N5854 (and later D6148 taking D6252's place) that happened in 2018, not long before D6807 came back from its long hiatus.
One of the 2 V set carriages there was, one is a DCM carriage, previously there were 4 there with three being DCM and DCT carriages. The second DCM and the DCT were moved to the Goulburn correctional facility for training purposes in 2018.No spare B set cars as far as I’m aware. It appears that a few LCD screens are all you need to have a completely different class of train. Never mind that nearly every other aspect of the SGT Waratah's (B) are identical to the A set order!A sets are Waratah's. A B Set is an A Set in drag, with very few changes to the set. They're still yellow on the end (under the wrap that they're in), and they're still the same body. There weren't many changes.
Have no idea why people disagree with you.
