Qube Workings

  Carnot Minister for Railways

Qube are moving their Grain rake to Bendigo Yard this morning for storage.  B-class and X31 are on duty, so a great opportunity for Gunzels....
Ending Broad gauge grain haulage already?
Dangersdan707
I doubt it.  Probably more a case of running out of space in Melbourne, especially with new cement trains and much of Totty yard getting a makeover at the present time.

Doesn't MP/PM7 arrive and depart from there?

I witnessed a lot of NR shunting in North Dynon last week.

At least the Ts are more reliable than the VLs. More Ts = built in redundancy. More VLs = more chance of a failure!

And yes, I am taking the p1ss but Gs possibly required for the paper train in place of failed VLs.

Reading the sightings page, the QUBE BG rake was shifted to North Dynon from Tottenham Yard on Wednesday. Is it possible the BG rake is being reactivated?

Quadruple Ts on today's Cement train.

QUBE have also rehired X31 & S303 as of last weekend. Are they expecting to run more trains ie. Grain? Or is it to cover maintenance?
  Carnot Minister for Railways

VL360-B76 have stalled hauling the Up Ultima Hay at Warrenheip this morning.  The B failed and the VL ran out of fuel (since its fuel capacity limited on our lightweight BG tracks).

G515 and 4 T-class to the rescue via Nth Geetroit.

How does a train run out of fuel?   Couldn't reactive plans have been made for a truck to have been dispatched for a refuel somewhere, or did the failed B just muck everything up?

VL locos have to run with fuel tanks half-full on our lightweight BG tracks. Too heavy otherwise.

Maybe too hard to get a truck in to refuel on the Warrenheip bank.

It ran out of fuel due to lack of planning not because "since its fuel capacity limited on our lightweight BG tracks". The capacity restriction is a given before the train even departs for Ultima.

And it doesnt help that they only have one fuel pickup, so all the fuel that was in the VL sloshed to the rear away from it.

Vline don’t allow refuelling from road tankers on their network

XR’s have been running up that neck of the woods for a long time with no issues

The fuel pickup on a VL is at the rear of the fuel tank

A second fuel pick up would achieve SFA

Exactly my question.  Not the first time ive seen poor planning lead to a train not getting to its destination....

An interesting update on SunRice running out of Australian rice this year:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8728943/Australian-run-rice-Christmas-SunRice-warns-rice-come-Vietnam.html

The last Deni Rice train was in January.  Latest ABARE forecast is for a summer 2020/21 rice crop of 258 kT.  So a big improvement on 2019/20, but still a long way short of previous harvests.

I wonder if and when we will see another rice train if most of the predicted forecast is required domestically?
