On an ordinary day, Beaconsfield station’s carpark is full by 7:30am, so it was great to join @JasonWood_MP to announce an additional 150 spots, new lighting & extra bike loops to make it easier for rail users to commute as the population grows.

Welcome upgrades to the car park which is good news.

The federal government has been providing funding for station car park upgrades for around 12 months now.

So many issues with that sentence.

Federal Government providing funding for a state government run commuter car park. They seem to be popping up in select electorates. Surely nothing to do with politics and pork barrleing.

It's a government issue.

Why the federal government funds infrastructure is beyond me. Sure major country wide projects like the NBN and Inland Rail, but a couple of hundred thousand for a local car park? Toilets at footy grounds? You end up with issues like the east west link where money comes with strings attached. The federal government blackmailing the state.

Unfortunately, many don't understand or can't see what the federal government does. International relations isn't the most talked about topic at the dinner table. Sure helps the local federal member when they can point to a car park or a dunny at election time and say we did that.

Busses are the devil here in Victoria.

When it comes to voters unfortunately car parks are a winner. The 300 people thinking about driving to the station all think they have one of those 165 spaces. Rolling Eyes

This just proves it further that the federal government is just pork barrelling. This was cause one of the level crossings didn't fall into the 75 crossings chosen and it's located right at Josh Frydenberg's seat.

That Glenferrie crossing really should be on the list. All tram squares should be automatically on the list.

Agree regarding Glenferrie Rd (Kooyong), but don't know that Riversdale Rd can be justified given the relatively low service numbers on the Alamein line.

There are three tram squares remaining right?

Correct; with Glen Huntley Rd to be removed by 2025.

Frydenburg's money would leave one, on the Alamein line at Riversdale Rd, Camberwell

More carparks at stations is surely a good thing to have regardless of how the works are funded.
