    'Shunter, haven't been able to do that job for Em yet. Nhill sidings were closed for 4 to 6 weeks. Repairs and whatnot on the loopline, and practically a total rebuild of the grain sidings. The bigger wagons over the last couple of years made them  a bit like Luna parks roller coaster. PN rocked up last week a couple of times, SSR turned up yesterday for the first time, but I was to hungover to care.

    Lillimur got the same treatment,the higher ups decided they new best, and a culvert wasn't replaced, and now they have a large hole, and some interesting blame games are  afoot.

    Road traffic (trucks)  at Lillimur is becoming a real issue with the border closure and the Melbourne lockdown. Really stuffing the logistics for trucking companies.  Plus when a truck comes from Melbourne, and truckie even thinks about getting out of the cabin, all kinds of objects are used and threats  made. If you want a dump, drive out the yard down the the road, a couple were  blue in the face when they left.

    Nah, Wolseley in SA and Lillimur in Vic.

    The situation at the border is very fluid at the moment, and if trailer exchanges are  bought in at the border, which could happen.And what a schermozzle that'll be. The trucking lobby aren't going to be very happy when the trains sail straight through, loco exchanges at Serviceton again?

    Proof will be in the pudding as they say, but the BOM have released their August-October climate outlook today, which still has a La Nina watch status. Forcast suggests upwards of 70% chance of above average rain in south western through to south eastern NSW in August, with those forcasts moving south into October, basicaly down to the devicing range, with patches of elevated rainfall forcast around Melbourne and west and south gippsland.

    Widespread areas of chance of above average rain forcast through much of of the rest of the eastern states, including western NSW and QLD, all of SA.

    Some really good falls predicted for the next week in most growing areas across the country. Hopefully they eventuate and the actual wet period predicted begins.

    Promising forecast by the  BOM not mentioning much rain for the Wimmera.   They rarely get their long term forecasts right, so we should be right at the head filling time of the season.

    Yes, the big wet was predicted to begin initially from April/ May on wards. Now we're basically at August. Something has to give...

    Most forecast models this morning have the rain missing Nthn Vic altogether next week. Hopefully that changes.

    I do like coming into this thread and getting farmer vibes from everyone.  Hanrahan lives strongly in you all and the weather dictates all!

    Very refreshing compared to the threads where it is political stuff up, cost to do things or operators not working together forming the vibes of the conversation.

    Not so on the Bland.  Yes crops will grow but if the ground is too wet to get onto them they will just go and self sow when the ripe ears fall into the mud after rain across the summer.

    Ive seen harvest extend into February in that area (usually done in November) as the rains havent stopped and the ground doesnt soak it in.

    Just had a look at the Rainbow Radar via the BOM site and I could hardly believed my eyes - showing some parts around there as having had over 50mm of rain since 9am with falls over 25 quite widespread.

    I know that the Rainbow radar is new and theoretically still being tested but hopefully this time it is bang on!

    Another disappointing downwards revision following the so called wet winter that was predicted a few months back. We've had a dry June and now saying they'll be a dry July, but with wetter months to follow.

    How long can the crops hold on without any decent rain? Will it be too late?

    See the rainfall deciles part too which I find very interesting. You can change the time scale from one month up to years ago. Paints a stark reality.

    Absolutely pouring with good soaking rain with no wind in Mildura this morning...slowly easing its way southwards through the Mallee country, the Wimmera and the north central at least.

    Certainly plenty of time to set up for a great harvest.

    My real concern though is the -5c at Hopetoun yesterday morning and a few -3c's late last month which has probably set back some of the upcoming harvest.

    The Rainbow radar seems to be working every time I go on to check it.

    Line 1 shows series of direct radar images at various ranges
    Line 2 shows rainfall figures for series of times - 5mins, etc up to last 24 hours
    The 24 hr duration one gives a much more comprehensive picture of rainfall across the immediate region
