6-7 times the population of Victoria, so if you think Victoria’s doing so well to have a similar daily death toll you need to be told that to do so well Victoria would need more like only 1.7 deaths per day.

Further, NSW exceeds Victoria’s population, if Victorians were handling this well then it would stand to reason that NSW would be looking worse, in fact NSW would be around about 1.5 the death rate of Victoria, instead we see Victoria at TEN TIMES the NSW death count, a whole order of magnitude in the wrong direction.

Eh...I never said Victoria was doing better than these European countries...I was suggesting the exact opposite: they have more cases but comparable deaths. That suggests to me their authorities are doing something right that ours are not.

And please explain what it is exactly about Victorians as opposed to others that makes them the reason why this virus is spreading.

This topic has already been discussed. In my opinion, it is just nit-picking to go down this path.

The actual deaths caused by this virus are reconciled continually by taking all factors into consideration. That is why the numbers released today, for example, might be different to how they appear historically next week.

Deciding what steps to take after Stage 4 will be a very difficult decision.

When Stage 3 was introduced on Thu 9 Jul the New Cases daily average was 124.
When facial coverings were made compulsory 14 days later on Thu 23 Jul, it was 363.
When Stage 4 was introduced 10 days later on Sun 2 Aug, it was 518.
(Stage 4 was implemented over 4 days.)
The average peaked 4 days later (about the time of full implementation of Stage 4) at 573.
Currently, it stands at 88.

At the peak of the First Wave it was 74.

The daily average is the rolling average over the previous 7 days. Bear in mind that, although the ‘road map’ will be available then, this Sunday will only be 5 weeks into the 6 weeks of Stage 4. (Daniel Andrews ruining Father’s Day as well as Mother’s Day.)

I think it is obvious that there are many different road-map proposals ready to be rolled out. The one that will be announced tomorrow will depend on the latest figures (Dan receives then at 10pm every night, apparently), not just of overall new cases, but of the community transmission rate.

It is worthwhile remembering, as kitchgp states, that what gets announced tomorrow will not take effect until a week later, at least. That was always the case.

A COVID-19 death is defined for surveillance purposes as a death in a probable or confirmed COVID-19 case, unless there is a clear alternative cause of death that cannot be related to COVID19 (e.g. trauma). There should be no period of complete recovery from COVID-19 between illness and death. Where a Coroner’s report is available, these findings are to be observed.

I think you will find that this has been the case everywhere that has had a large number of deaths: COVID-19 is a virus that kills old and frail people in aged care settings that are ill equipped to deal with it.

Europe had an enormous number of deaths when the aged care sector was hit early and hit unprepared. Now the virus is pretty much freely spreading in the EU and people are not dying.

The whole "it kills young people too" is technically true, but is statistically insignificant.

Yes he made some bad missteps, granted. He needs to take the blame and he deserves criticism, no doubt.

But he or anyone else in the ALP is the best for the state. Michael O'Brien ain't worth $hit. Just as NSW would be mad to dismiss Berejiklian, Victoria would be mad to get rid of Andrews and put in O'Brien and his merry band of Christian Right twits, like Smith, Hodgetts and Davis. The sooner Pesutto assumes power, get the man a safe seat, Liberals so he can assume leadership and get rid of that useless O'Brien. Yes it seems everyone wants to slag off unions. But you know what, without unions (organisations who are not perfect), many would not have a decent wage. Granted Carnot. But I have already voiced my opinion about the Belt and Road Initiative. Its disgusting. He should jettison it as quick as possible. Deserves as much criticism for wanting to trade with such an appalling regime. Tell the Feds to give Victoria its fair share of the pie than Andrews would not have to go cap in hand to the Chinese.

That said he is still much better than O'Brien.  I get the distinct feeling that even if Andrews did not sign on that Initiative, you would still have contempt.
