distance to paris 448 kilometres
Paris population = somewhere over 10 million.
distance to Amsterdam = 590km's
Amsterdam area population - 9 million

Can someone tell me where in Australia there are 2 cities with the above mentioned combined populations within 450 - 600 kilometres of each other?

High speed rail is nice but you need big populations in close proximity to make it viable. Australia does not have this if your insinuation is that Australia should have this.

In Europe where you have 30 million people or so linked within 600km's.

London population = 9 million
