If that comment wasn't so sad, it would be hysterically funny. The greatest attention-seeker Railpage has ever seen, gets the attention he craves and then moans that it's someone else's fault. Graham 4405 is right; go and seek proper attention.
How exactly do I 'crave attention'? I don't ask for you or anyone else here to respond to what I post - you do have a free will and make decisions about what you do every day don't you?

This is yet another instance of you projecting your obsession onto me. You're blaming me for the fact that you can't stay away from me because you just love being outraged by things that I say.
don_dunstan is the gift that just keeps giving!

People like don_dunstan just love intellectual chit-chats. I bet he logs in eagerly waiting to see what they've written in his absence so that he can get his righteous indignation on. If he didn't like doing it then he'd completely ignore them and not respond to their posts. Don tried it for a while but he couldn't resist and eventually started answering them again because he just loves the sense of superior moral outrage he gets from talking to them. He has a choice not to engage with them just like they do - no one is forcing him.

So? You want people to stop attacking you? Then don't give them so much ammo!

I never said I wanted people to stop attacking me, I just said that you're phoning it in. That copy/pasting what I'd said was from the Trump thread but you repeated the trick here hoping that people would still find it funny and/or that nobody would notice you'd used it before.

At least I don't re-use my own jokes. You on the other hand...

No, you're confusing me with mejhammers1 who promptly shut up when I revealed to him that Kamala Harris had put out a patronizing cartoon depicting white people as having privilege over black people. I asked Michael repeatedly how that would play with poor white people and he wouldn't answer me because he knows full well that calling people privileged just because they happen to be white is a big part of what's wrong with the Demmy-crats - and yet that was exactly what Kamala Harris was doing.

AND just like that we're back on topic with Mister Magoo and his side-kick... how about that...

The context was "how could 70 million people possibly still vote for Trump" - and I pointed out that people were still voting for him because they felt like they'd be dealt out of the game. Then I gave the example of Kamala Harris who instead of saying that she's there to fight poverty puts out a cartoon that shows that black people need to catch up with white people because white people are already privileged (as depicted in her cartoon). She also said repeatedly that she's after equality-of-outcomes which means that private companies will have quota systems for black people and women in their higher management and board positions.

It isn't a strawman argument at all - it's trying to explain to someone why those people who voted for Trump still kept voting for Trump despite his flaws and why Biden/Harris was in no way appealing to them. What you're saying to white people - even those who are on the urban fringes and in rural areas stuck in diabolical poverty is that they're automatically privileged because they're white. Statistically there's a a lot more white people than black or latino people in the United States and therefore there's got to be an enormous number who live in poverty - those people are NOT privileged and telling them that they are on account of their race is only alienating them further.

You wont admit to white privilege, so deflect to a strawman. Reminds me of this https://www.theshovel.com.au/2020/11/12/pauline-hanson-demands-borders-reopen-immigrants/ And I remember a thread a year or so back where you were waxing lyrical about Hanson and her fellow racists So which is it, you deny white privilege? in which case your either an ignorant moron or an out and out racist.
wobert
I've spelt out what I was getting at - and it is NOT a strawman argument, you obviously don't fully understand what a strawman in and you need to look it up. Or are you saying that white people living in poverty is technically impossible and I've made it up? In which case you're even more ignorant than you appear - there's plenty of that all over the globe including in this country.

The fundamental problem here is that you don't even really want to acknowledge what my argument is - or you are deliberately obfuscating my point - and you've just launched off into a "crazy stupid Don Dunstan is a racist creep" thing just following all the other halfwits here who can't argue their collective way out of a paper bag.

Those disadvantaged white people in the United States are real, they're still there and they're still angry at being stuck in poverty or seeing their incomes shrink. Telling them that they're privileged just because of their race is not going down well and it's certainly the opposite of that "time for healing" slogan rubbish that they love to bandy around so much. Biden/Harris shows that they're right back to ignoring and marginalizing the people who put Trump into the White House to begin with - the Democrats have learnt nothing.

And a large proportion of Trump supporters are pig ignorant and racist. Tucker Carlson, Hannity, Ingraham and other sleazebags, time and again they're caught out telling the most obvious lies yet the rubes that watch them are to ignorant and intellectually lazy to find fact from fiction.

It just so easy to sit around and do nothing and abuse others, who have a bit of foresight, curiosity and imagination and are prepared to work towards   attaining the goals of a curing problems and bettering  lives. Look at Covid, if the hard decisions are taken and backed up with hard graft, the situation can be alleviated. Look at Trump and the do nothing Republicans, whinge moan complain and blame everybody else for the  predicament the country is in. I have zero sympathy for the vast majority Trump/Republicans, the state that the US is in  is of there own making, and aren't the redneck States copping the virus now. For the last time, it's not a 'straw-man' argument, you need to research what these things mean before you stick that label on them, it just makes me think that you're either doing that because you're quite thick or its a feeble attempt to stir me up.

A straw-man is where I would be constructing an exaggeration of Worbert's argument which would give an extreme example and use that as the base to go from. So I'm misrepresenting his argument so that I can attack that 'straw-man'.

Where have I misrepresented what he's said? He's basically agreed with my thesis that he thinks Trump supporters are contemptuous because they supported him - all I've ever said is that those people are angry and that they feel as though they've been economically dealt out of the game, which is why they voted for him to begin with.

Where is the 'straw-man'?

Alright, these arguments are a bit more cogent and sensible - but I'm not trying to defend the decision to pick Trump, I'm just saying you can't blame the people who voted for him because they're desperate. They felt utterly betrayed by the eight years of Obama that saw the majority slip further into poverty and when presented with the choice they chose the political outsider over the 'experienced' politician.

Trump didn't turn out to be their savior but at the same time he did tackle China over their unfair trade practices so some good did come out of the Trump Presidency. And I don't blame those people on the margins for voting for Trump, not one iota.

We will never know Obama vs Trump who would win, but had Obama been allowed to run again he would have likely won again removing Trump from the equation. But Trump is there because the Dem's put Hillary on the platform, considering Hillary lost even after winning on popular vote by 4m votes shows it would not have taken much to keep Trump out. My guess is Trump vs Obama and Obama would have won.

The people who voted for Obama are mostly the poor.

Under Obama unemployment was improving and the same trend continued into Trump's era until 2019.

Trump was never going to rescue the poor, rather the opposite it was even in his policy.

Trump wanted to bring jobs back into the US, but those jobs kept leaving for the same reason they left Australia. You cannot make money making something with labour costing $15-20/h where as others do it for less. This has been going on for decades as the economy develops. The low education high labour manual jobs go off-shore replaced by modern higher skilled jobs. Mexico builds low cost cars, the US builds high cost cars, planes and rockets.

The problem with the Republican party is when it comes to economic management they talk the talk but don't walk it.
- Debt always rises
- Deficits are rarely brought under control
- They throw money at the military
- They won't increase taxes
- They only try and balance the budget by cutting what little welfare the US has.

For all his faults, Clinton is still the only President that has managed to reduce the debt during his term for a long time.
