Anything recent happened with the Yaapeet line?

Hey everyone!

I was reading a post from 2009 here about the Yaapeet line and I'm just wondering if anything recent has happened. Any services in the past couple of years? Is the track still there? I'm planning on going up there with a mate in a couple of months to have a look around and want to look around the old stations / track. Is there anything interesting left at all?

Also, are those wagons that were stabled at Jeparit back in 2009 still there?

Tracks still there, overgrown, and no trains for several years or more. Lines been used out to Rainbow regularly of late.

Back in the 2010/11 floods some of the track was washed away and left hanging in mid air, plenty of us thought that would be curtains for the line. However there was a very big harvest that year and Jeparit and Rainbow had large quantities of grain, too much to be trucked, so the then Gov't gave it a spruce up and it's been operating ever since.

The last couple of years have seen record breaking harvest's and I reckon the year before last, the whole West Wimmera was carrying the can for most of the state.

This year has seen another good refurbishment of the line, with even, believe it or not some concrete sleepers added to the infrastructure Shocked

That should give ya an idea of what has been going on, anyway you'll soon find out. cheers.

oh yeah, nearly forgot, it was when the line was reopened after the floods, that the Yaapeet section got the shaft, can't remeber if GrainCorp called or V/Line or Victrack who ever is in charge of the line.

Regarding the opening post's question about wagons stored on the line back in 2009; Are these the same 100 tonne grain wagons that were later stored on the Avoca line? The same ones that since that line re-opened have been getting moved all over the district looking for a home?

If so, I think they were last spotted down at Hamilton.
