A forecast of 748 kT of rice!!! Gee the Deni rice will be busy from May 2021!
Agree Carnot, so what is the state of play with the rice train atm. Is it running or is there a current contract with someone to run
it ?
The Toolamba line, I take it will need a good freshen up, seems pathing on the Bendigo line is getting increasingly tight. With a heap of rice trains for what is going to be probably the next 12 months, Toolamba must be the only option. Probably plenty of cereal grain as well from the region.
Harvest time is going to be an interesting spectacle.

Qube is the obvious contender to continue SunRice traffic. The question is whether the Govt are willing to reopen the Toolamba line? But then paths will get tighter as upgrade work is done on the Shepp line in 2021 too.
8 years ago Down trains would go through Bendigo around 8:55, and Up return at 20:40. Like clockwork, and it meant no problem with a quick turnaround at the Port.
In more recent years Down trains would sometimes stable in Bendigo between 7:10 and 8:55, and Up return at 22:00 due to new V/line services - much tougher to do the daily run. Something's going to have to be worked out, since Echuca will have more trains running on it in late-2021.
