V/Lines backflip over Kyneton platform arrangements

This is why we can’t have nice (time-saving, reliability-improving, service-bettering) things.
Great, another (factually incorrect) scare campaign from a bunch of whingers.

Get to the station on time for your service, simples. There are signs EVERYWHERE at Kyneton P1 telling people about this change, it is not like they can say they don't know about it.

MANAGER, MASTER SERVICE PLAN

I'm not certain who can be attributed to being the most stupid:

The STUPID pax for risking their lives when there had been more than enough publicity and even the placement of officials to direct the stupid pax to the correct platform.

OR

Stupid V/Line for reverting to the slower system which seems like 'nanny state' gone mad to me.

WE all know V/Line's No 1 priority is passenger safety...but to me this is simply ludicrous.

Mike.

That is just sad.

I just cannot believe the stupidity of this decision.

What will be next, a full passenger overpass like you are getting at Ballan before they are allowed to revert back to P2 running?

Really shows how concerned V/Line and the PTV are about image rather than running an efficient railway?

If you read The Vinelander's post, you'll notice that the change is all part of the Master Service Plan.
Ho, Ho, Ho! .  . . the Master What Plan?
  Radioman Chief Train Controller

Hello All,

it used to be called a Working Time Table in Victoria, because that succinctly described what is was. The Master Train Plan as a term actually covers the whole spectrum, such as train stabling, unit and set requirements etc, yet the MTP Book is the WTT with a fancy name that is a misnomer !

Regards, Radioman.

The Master Train Plan as a term

Except now we don’t even use that, because as V/Line well knows, trains are not necessary to run a railway service.

Seriously, the good people of Kyneton have had two platforms since 1862. Are we seriously to believe they can’t cope with that any longer?
  Carnot Minister for Railways

Oh Dear.  The Nanny State means 'Regional Fast Rail' should be renamed "Regional Snail Rail".

Why don't we sack the whole of Vline and  let the people of Kyneton run the show?
They will then be able to complain to themselves about late running.

And the 09.14 Down Bendigo can be the poster child!

But don't worry, at least the good Burghers of Kyneton (who have a history of successful rail campaigns, the original alignment wasn't supposed to go anywhere near the town) don't have to face the daunting task of crossing the tracks!

If you think about this sensibly what they should do is run all Up services into P1, all Down into P2 except possibly the morning express services that run on the West track. That way those arriving at the station to catch a train to Melb (the majority of pax) would depart from P1 with all of it's facilities and coming home when they don't need a waiting room and are not running for a train they could alight at P2 and then cross over.

In fact the morning Up Express services may already run into P1 and then cross over to the West track at the points on the Up side of the station even though this itself loses time.

The moves that really need to be avoided are the ones where Down services running on the West track cross over to P1 and then cross back as the East track ends at Kyneton. Total waste of time for the few pax who get on at Kyneton heading north.

Of course all this could be avoided if the East track (old Up line) was upgraded to full RFR spec for 160 km/h running and then all Up services could use it instead of having to use the West track (old Down line) to make the timetable.

@Carnot do you know if any improvements to the Down track are part of the Regional Rail Revival works on the Bendigo line?

***edit, ah, that would be a no. https://transport.vic.gov.au/content/docs/RRR-Bendigo-Echuca-Factsheet.pdf

The government insisted on describing a “Bendigo Line Upgrade” which really doesn’t have much in it for the Bendigo corridor at all just so they could get their press release about “all five country lines”.

The reality is a Class 1 upgrade on the “other” running lines on every corridor is low-hanging fruit for an ambitious government but I suspect there’s some political scarring from the original RFR episode.

Caused by changes to browser standards with no more images via http and only https

This is being changed in the code by Paul but there are over 200 locations in the code being changed. It is happening.

Mobile devices will display because those browsers have not been updated as yet.

Actually, I actively dislike cats.
But as this is a rail forum I took it for granted that you would have known the cat to which I referred was a fireman's cat.
All firemen's cats are of a greater density so far as the hue of their pigmentation is concerned.
(Not allowed to say they are black, I assume). Smile

Looks like a good candidate for a nice big modern island platform in the sky. Twisted Evil

* Level crossing right next to the station waiting for the next Darwin Award winner.
* Antiquated side platform layout which V/Line seemingly loves to switch at random to stuff up passengers.
* Trains run slower when they are forced to switch tracks due to the above.
* "Don't push you X-ing luck" sign at the pedestrian crossing, which you'll probably be stuck staring at when V/Line decides to randomly put the train on the wrong side at the last minute (also see point 1 about Darwin Award winners).
* The building on Platform 2 looks like it was abandoned in 1978 and hasn't been cleaned since.
