Great work Josh and thanks for sharing.

I wonder why SCT would haul the wagons back to Wodonga area when they could be stored in Wagga Yard or even Albury?

bevans, Thank you heaps.

AFAIK, SCT has a freight facility at Barnawartha and is a stop for MB9 services to load goods in and BM9 services to unload goods out.

Cheers,
Josh

There's no Wagga yard any more and if you're going as far as Albury it makes sense to go the extra twenty minutes to Barnawatha.

....... where any urgent or semi urgent loading can be easily transferred to road for the remainder of it's journey

Reliable sources tell me that this was caused by MB9  going  through the catch points at Bomen.

Ouch, as Mr E Blackadder might say catch points is as catch points does

So would this have been a (fairly) low speed SPAD followed by the inevitable off road excursion?

Am wondering in context of how far the locos have gone off and how they are positioned whereas not too many wagons appear to have come off? (could be my eyesight of course...)

My sources tell me MB9 was doing close to 50 km/h when it went through the points.

Update: The line has been re-opened to traffic at 7:00pm tonight.
Heard the first train go through under an hour ago.

Cheers,
Josh

SCT train (single loco) with about 20 wagons went through at about 8.51 at shepherds crossing 10K north of bomen at line speed.

I think it was slowing at that time but can't be sure, I was camped at shepherds having a snack when the barrier lights came on.

1st loco laying in the dirt has not been moved, 2nd loco moved to allow line rebuild and traffic again, cranes still setup and all derailed carriages still in the dirt. I guess they will be righted when they are good and ready to.

Wagga is inaccessible.
Albury possible congestion on Gantry roads. Loop may be booked out

As Josh posted,
SCT has a fully operational facility at Barnawatha. Everything they need to unload/remarshal that train they have there on site, even a shunting loco; why wouldn't they go there?

Albury unavailable and Wagga too that does not leave a lot of options for 250+ kms of track for sidings

6MS2 and 6MB4 ran last night which means that the line through Wagga should be open by the time these trains pass through.

T357 has been busy retrieving the wagons from the derailment and then going to Oaklands last night on an empty wheat train.
