News article: (Video) Happy 50th Amtrak!

On May 1st, 1971, Amtrak was formed from almost nothing.

Congratulations.

I have never taken an Amtrak service and never been to the USA.

I hope Amtrak get all the funding they need to take them into the next decade.  I would like to see them expand their high speed rail services and this not left to private enterprise however lately the idea of a train from Los Angeles to Las Vegas does seem like it will be built.

Good days ahead for Amtrak.

Thanks for posting. Smile
If you get the opportunity to ride the California Zephyr or the Coast Starlight, my two favourite train journeys than grasp it with both hands.

I believe the trains are now back to daily services post COVID-19.

Also as 'Amtrak Joe', President Biden is a railfan...the future for Amtrak looks very bright indeed Exclamation

It makes sense to fund Amtrak more when you consider the size of the country and the patronage. Amtrak with what they offer and their budget do a fantastic job.

Appreciate you mike posting that trains if I can ever get there I will surely take one.

Does make you think why Amtrak is not being funded for more higher speed routes when New York to Washington abs Florida is such a popular service.

The most important commuter route, from Washington DC to New York and on to Boston MA is Amtrak's bread and butter route of around 450 miles, or the same distance as Melbourne to Adelaide or Brisbane to Rockhampton.

This is in part already a 'high speed' route of speeds up to 200Km/h, however it needs mega$ investment to upgrade it to a true high speed route which entails better signalling and replacement of several almost life expired bridges and curve easing.

This is simply the start and if Pres. Biden invests in rail like Pres. Dwight Eisenhower invested in the US Interstate freeway system from the 1950's then we are in for intreresting times ahead.
