One needs to ask why myki patronage info is so hard to obtain and why are they hell bent on hiding it ?

Sydney makes the OPAL CARD data readily available, myki does not.

Because Myki is a crap outdated system. I would hazard a guess that the OPAL system had used elements from existing systems such as Oyster in London. But here in typical Victorian fashion we try and build one from scratch.

It is said that Sydney Trains is 20 years behind London Underground. Well Melbourne Metro is at least 10 years behind that of Sydney Trains.

Our rail system sucks. Our bus system sucks.

It would still count an aggregate tap (touch) on/off number.

myki was and probably still is based on microsoft technology.  It would not be difficult to export the data to AZURE for insights and big data.  it would be available but is not made available.

Same applies to Yarra Trams and Sydney Trains.  Yarra Trams is not so friendly to enthusiasts and is very careful in releasing technical details if any.  Sydney Trains even organized a special cab ride (and perhaps a depot visit) for a 14 yo gunzel.

One thing that annoys me about the Myki data is they publish it in the form of financial years, which is just silly. I'm not sure if Opal does this, but you'd think they'd be able to publish it in standard years.

According to Daniel Bowen's blog, the Victorian data is the vaguest.  I assume the Opal data is more detailed.

The reference is to the Opal Data I think being available electronically and easily rather than Victoria which does not do this.

You can get all the opal data at this website. https://opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au/
