4MP9 failed in South Australia today and the 2 x CLF's and C501 were dispatched to assist. They must have made good time. According to the Gheringhap loop sightings page these locos where still able to run their Dooen container train through Gheringhap pretty much on time later that night, with T357 on the pointy end.
4MP9 failed in South Australia today and the 2 x CLF's and C501 were dispatched to assist.? 4PM9 ?.
Not trying to tell anyone anything!
Just trying to make sense of the last few posts to this thread. A big mistake, OK, I should have known better.
‘Seems SCT are running an extra PM9 service on a Wednesday out of Perth?’ (posted 1226 on Thurs 4/2).The above would seem to fit with an extra as 4PM9 sometime the day before. So far so good.
‘4MP9 failed in South Australia today and the 2 x CLF's and C501 were dispatched to assist.’ (posted 1150 Fri 5/2).
Depending on actual times 4PM9 could just (?) have been somewhere in SA by the above time. Despatch of the CLs and C501 from Victoria, however, does not fit. My assumption in this regard was incorrect. Is 4MP9 also an extra (doesn’t seem to be in the ARTC MTP that I can see)?
Accepting that it was 4MP9 that ‘failed in SA’ and that whilst it might have been tabled to sail from SCT in Victoria on the usual MP9 schedule late on Wednesday 3/2 it must have been around 24 hours late to stall at Nairne in the early hours of Friday 5/2?
Thanks Bing. Not trying to tell anyone anything!

SCT have been running the odd extra service of late, plus their regular schedules have been in disarray due to loco failures and other issues such as the WA bushfires.
I noticed that CLF4 ran Westward through Gheringhap a little over an hour after 2MP9.
I would guess that C501 & CLF2 will go as far as Adelaide before heading back to Dooen to operate an Up Dooen service with CLF4.
Reported elsewhere that QUBE's GML10 will lead out of Melbourne tonight on a SCT MP service, with the GML being transferred to WA for a new contract. The GML will apparently lead, probably all the way, due to loco issues in Melbourne, the need for the HP that the GML brings, and rules that DC locos must lead AC ones according to the reports.Supposed to be heading to Islington in SA first for maintenance before heading to WA.
Last post on the subject has them out of Melbourne around 3am Wednesday 24th Feb, but that or coarse is subject to change.
For those unaware, GML10 is best described as a DL in a N class body (not that simple, but close enough for this argument). QUEBE are somwhat constrained with it based out of Melbourne, as it is not allowed to run in NSW due to their EPA and other rules. It has had various brandings over the years, including GML20 and R1004. it was for a time running bauxite in QLD, and i belive had been weighted up a bit for the task, but presently is somwhat lighter
Supposed to be heading to Islington in SA first for maintenance before heading to WA.A regular story for that loco.
You mention DC must lead AC locos, in WA they run trains that have AC locos leading DC. Maybe only an ARTC rule?I thought it was an operator practice, not a network rule.
