Good afternoon to all the Members of the Brains Trust out there in Cyber Space.

I have noticed that there is a big gap in the variety of Containers that we can load onto the decks of the wagons in our Australian Intermodal Trains.

The gap is Tank Containers (or Tanktainers, if you like).  So, I have decided that I will have a go at making/getting some for myself.

The problem that I have is that I am located in the Lockyer Valley, a long way away from the Interstate trains that come to Brisbane from Sydney.  I cannot do much about that problem, but you Guys (and Dolls) out there can help with the next problem.  That problem is:-  Does anybody have photos that they would care to share, so that I know which ones are appropriate for an Oz Freight Train?

Any contribution would be most appreciated.  Even if you have no photos to share, names on the side of any containers that you have seen will be of assistance, I can look these names up on the net.  As I used to hear on the radio many years ago, "Keep them Cards and Letters rolling in".

Many thanks for the info, it has given me (far too) many options, some commercially available, many not.  I'll just have to get some rough measurements and get some decals done to be put onto undecorated kit models.

Agreed 100% Tanktainers are a huge gap in the consist RTR space.

Which means that the Walthers Tanktainer kit can be used for HO trains, just needs appropriate markings. In N I can only think of the odd runs of 20ft ISO Tanktainers the Japanese makers produce in 1/150 N scale.

I am currently looking for Walthers 20ft Tanktainer kits in Australia on Ebay and also in all of the Model Shops that I know of.  The cost of going to the USA to buy them is cost prohibitive (US$20-30 for the model, and, one I saw was listed at A$97 for the Postage!).  I have also gone to my favourite on-line supplier and he is getting me some for about A$18 + local Postage.

Of course, it would be a great help if one of our domestic manufacturers could be persuaded to put them out in a few different liveries.  Until that happens, I will have to make do with half a dozen Seaco 20 footers.

I suppose that we can all live in hope . . . .

They’re UK based in Scotland. An extensive range of items in OO & N gauge but they do have a selection of HO items. Would any of these be suitable?

They do post to Australia, I’ve used them in the past with no problems at all.

Say what? Those 20ft Tanktainer kits are available directly from Walthers for USD$8-12 and shipping is like USD$15+25%. Though if you want the Euro version of a ISO Tanktainer I suspect they'd be cheaper from said region.
If Auscision can release a variety of 20ft, 40ft and 48ft standard containers why haven't they done a Tanktainer?
