Wow, almost 3 years to the day after the last post! For those of us not in the know what happened, was there a delay of some kind in the project getting up and running or is this just par for the course for rail?
There were all sorts of problems getting the development up and running.
Yes, it's been a long time coming. As a former resident, I didn't think the Wagga Wagga City Council had the determination to see it through.
So easy to fling the blame around.
I wouldn't be that determined to see it through either. Millions being spent and no clear sign of where the business is going to come from, other than just a bunch of motherhood statements so far.
An outdated memorandum of understanding with Genesee & Wyoming Australia that's not worth the paper it was written on.
(NOTE to posters: GWA no longer exists - has been known as One Rail Australia since Feb 2020 and has gone through a major change of ownership, and quite possibly will change ownership again by the end of the year.)
Budgets - everyone seems to think you announce a project, sprinkle fairy dust and it happens. Most of the funding is coming from the NSW Government, so it's going to be spaced out over a number of years. The rail funding is coming from the Transport for NSW Fixing Country Rail program. Stage 2, so obviously this project, which given there are two other terminals less than 2 hours away and therefore is not urgent, needs to take it's place in the queue.
Great to see something happening, but I predict a lot of rusty rails sitting there for quite a few years yet.
