New V/Line CEO - an ALP Crony?

  Carnot Minister for Railways

An article in today's Herald Sun on the Interim V/line CEO Matt Carrick now having his contract extended to 2026.

Matt is the former head of the State Trustees and previously ran as a pre-selection candidate for the ALP.  He has no previous experience in Transport.

The new V/line Chief of Staff, Moshe Same, is also an ALP hack.

Id agree with you except, the Victorian Government of all Political shades have been appointing people with no Transport experience for decades, that is why the Transit scene in this state is the basket case currently.

I suspect though is what you are really fired up is because they have ALP backgrounds. Down with the ALP, eh Carnot.

No.  We all know what a disaster Theo & Co was after their appointment by Denis Napthine in April 2013....  He had transport experience, albeit a corrupt one.

Not to mention that as the Herald Sun is effectively neutered these days, it has little to zilch impact on the outcome of state elections...and the fact that's it's highly unlikely Matthew Guy has any hope in hell of winning the 30+ seats off the ALP and the Greens to win the upcoming Election.

So do you want "Yes men" installed at the top of V/line so they will not bat an eyelid at any crazy edict/directive issued by the State Government?

Any amount of independence and understanding of how a transport network is run is a gonski....  V/line has become a toy railway set for the ruling Govt.

Only one thing is sure - if another Government gets in they'll be a mass-cleanout of the Executive.  No question.

So we shouldn't question any decisions / appointments like these just because we have a government with a massive majority?

That makes absolutely no sense to me

We should be questioning decisions / appointments like these precisely because we have a government with a massive majority!

An Aussie colloquial term for "a goner" or "Missing in Action".  Often associated with Governments/Public Service due to the "Gonski Review" commissioned by the Gillard Federal Govt.

We should be I absolutely agree, totally. I am just highlighting Carnot's extraordinary bias. And my belief that if a Coalition Government that is as socially Conservative as he is, was elected, then he would not care about the experience of the CEO to V/Line.

Mannie, Mannie, Mannie - I am a social conservative who believes that the CEO who runs V/line should have good experience in transport management and not be a party hack.

You make far too many assumptions....

I would get staff from WA. How come they can deliver a rail project to their airport consisting of 9 km of twin tunnels, 3 new stations (2 underground) within 6 years and $2 Billion and we in Victoria are basically building a simple branch line all above grade (with some sections blatantly over engineered), 7 km of twin track that is new build, 1 simple above ground station budgeted for $10 Billion (although I think it will be nearer $3 to $3.5 Billion) and will take 7 years. The Branch line to the airport should be completed by 2026 at the latest.

The MARL is certainly not value for money even at $3 Billion!

V/Line needs someone at the helm who has a deep understanding of railways.
