Thanks for the great photos Marcus! Well done! Very Happy

I shall post later if the test was a success or not, I have to make contact with my spies  Wink

I haven't yet found out the info if the test was a success or not. But what I can say is SN7 is currently around at Southern Cross Station. It is expected to run the 1655 service to Marshall but i can't guarantee this as yet.

The 16 55 Marshall was run with set FN19.

SN7's test run on Tuesday was successful.

At the moment, Geelong and Melbourne based conductors are undergoing first time and refresher training with the BS cars (many new conductors which were employed to help cover the extra services in the new timetable in effect on 03/09/06 haven't worked with BS cars before - these being out of service before they commenced work).

At this stage, subject to change, SN7's first revenue run is set to be on the 1655 down Marshall on Friday.

Indeed, the Heritage Set did get a revenue run today. BS215 even smelled original...

Was roughly 3 minutes late on arrival at North Melbourne, but arrived at South Geelong almost exactly on time.

Here's a quick happy snap of the rear of ACN21 at South Geelong on the way to Marshall.

I also have photos of SN7.

Hi All,
I was aboard this train with three fellow Railpage Australia™ Forums members from Southern Cross through to Lara (they continued on to South Geelong, but I had to get back home earlier, so bailed at Lara).

Photos of SN7 from yesterday, the Lara Temporary Platform Extension, Biased Timetables & PIDS at Lara, Footy Specials at Lara and stabled at Dandenong, and T400+X49 at Dandenong can be seen at:-

Further information and photos of SN7 will be available online in the coming few days at V/LineCars.com. I will advise when.

Cheers

There were several people taking photos. Though, I'm not surprised at all that you didn't seen him.

I was recently flicking through a 1986 Newsrail mag, and what do I see... An image captioned:
"B80 powers away from Footscray at 17 22 with an all blue BE car set bound for Geelong. Wed 26.2.86"

And what do we have 20 years later? A single set of BS cars kept just for running peak hour Geelong trains. History never repeats... Laughing

(for those who don't know, BE cars were wooden bodied with economy compartment seating. By 1986 they were just kept for a weekday peak hour run to Geelong and back)

SN7 was in platform 3 under the bridge at Spencer St today around 15:30, as only a 5-car consist (ACN-BS-BS-BS-BS). I didn't get the car numbers to see which BS was missing, but it assuredly wasn't there (the only other car set anywhere near it was FSH25 in Pl 2N)

At 3pm on my way home BS216, BS219 and BS217 were on their own under the Latrobe Street bridge. A Y class was moving the ACN, BS21218 and BS215 towards the station.

From this, I assume the Y class dropped off BS218 into another siding, then reassembled the 2 car consist with the other three BS cars.

Perhaps SN7 will be kept as only a 5-car consist if thats all it really needs to convery all the passenger on the 1655 down and respective morning up train comfortably. By the way, what has being passenger feedback so far towards the re-introduction of BS cars?

BS218 is missing from SN7 and this is due to an air-con fault. It should return to the consist in the next few days.

The set was back to 6 cars this afternoon, but I haven't seen it for a week or two, so the car could have been back earlier.

What happens if you loiter around a BS car toilet? Dunno. 8)

Anyhow, this was the original consist on the test run:
The cars in it are:
bs215:vlpmk2:riveted
bs218:vlpmk1:welded
bs216:vlpmk1:riveted
bs219:vlpmk1:welded
bs217:vlpmk1:riveted

The rivets are just along the bottom, the original SOP cars were fully riveted (thanks to rjcas for the catch). The fully welded cars have cream painted interiors, the riveted ones have dark woodgrain interiors.

The consist today is just the same. BS215 have the separate washroom and toilets at both ends, the other cars have the larger combined toilets. An inspection of the state of the toilets gives:
BS217: west end only, retention dunny fitted
BS219: both locked
BS216: west end only, retention dunny fitted
BS218: both locked
BS215: east end washroom and toilet open, retention dunny fitted, west end washroom and toilet locked

For some reason only the riveted cars had the dunnies fitted - coincidence? Confused
