North Geelong yard moving to Waurn Ponds

There was an article in saturdays Geelong Advertiser which had a bit of PTUA dibble about Geelong's rail services needing this and that, blah blah blah.
However, this article did mention a plan to move North Geelong yard out to Waurn Ponds, this is not the first time I have heard this rumour.
Anybody know if there is any fact to this rumour/plan ?

I think you will find that it is the Geelong passenger yard that will move to Waurn Ponds.

North Geelong Freight Yard will stay where it is.

The Geelong Station and Car Park on the western side of it are on the designated Western Wedge for re-development as a transit centre with high density housing. As such the current Car Park and marshalling yard at Geelong days are numbered -  the land is simply too valuable. Geelong will just be three platforms straight through and alll the servicing and stabling of tarin sets is palnned to move to Waurn Ponds.

IIRC the medium term planning is to build a new terminal station between Ghazeepore and Anglesea roads and relocate the Pass yard to the down side of that new terminal station west of teh Anglesea lx on current Quarry land.

North Geelong Yard stays as is . Plans this week re sg published in GA reveal intention for 1800 m crossing loop on sg mainline on down side of Separation St North Geelong (former Nth "C" Box) with full grade separation at both Separation street and Thompsons Road.)

I read that the yard & maintainance was moving to Moriac not Waurn Ponds.

Definitely stabling and servicing at Waurn Ponds, map in Saturdays GA shows proposed ring road connections in area and shows proposed new terminal station just before Ghazeepore Road at end of Rossack Drive, and new stabling/servicing yard on the down side of that at Waurn Ponds.

V/line just spent a lot of money putting in a new fuel point at Geelong Loco. Or is it short sighted planing again!

Surely services will still be stabled in the city area still and those sidings still be used? A lot of peak services to terminate there now, and are stored for morning peak services back to Melbourne. Maybe the Waurn Ponds sidings will be extras for services terminating there?

Of a morning there are only two up trains originating at Geelong, and in the afternoon there are only three down trains terminating there (as well as one in the middle of the day, and the last one on Saturday night). The only reason they do this is because there is no path for them to go any further on the single line. FI you put more stabling on the other side you can ran more trains though there, and cut down on the dead running as well. If you pick the right time, there are trains running 5 minutes behind each other on the single line.

Rumours nothing more than rumours. Besides the Waurn Ponds area(Both sides of the main line) is privately owned by the quarry which are in the process of planning/digging a new hole as we speak.

Everybody knows that's a long standing tradition going back over many decades Exclamation

In fact, it would be an interesting thread of its own. The Navarre line is one that comes to mind.
