Two B Class Series have Head-On in Nowergup Depot

Well let's hope nothing like this happens again, as the last thing Transperth will need is to be two trains down when the Mandurah Line opens. Hopefully set 53 will be back soon. Worst case scenario, if this does happen again the only way they can cover themselves is with anything left over at Claisebrook, i.e. A series!

Only the "T" car for 53 is sitting by itself on the track next to stow 5 at Nowergup Yard. You can spot it when you head towards the PTA Nowergup facility.

I see that car 453 has been attached to the trailer car T653 at Nowergup. I am lead to believe that car 453 arrived by float on Wed 19 Sept. The remaining car 553 is also in the area.

So, one would imagine that set 053 will be back in service within the month, after trials and the likes. Just in time for the Mandurah line opening.

They should be repaired by austral spring 2007!!!!.

Who told you that?  A date has not been finalised yet because it depends on EDI's other commitments.

It seem that the repair work has been completed now that we are in the spring of 2007. Just in time for the opening of the Mandurah Line. It seems as though Bombardier know which side of their bread is buttered.

Be gentle there NMR watcher.  Some people get a bit testy when they realise there are others with information sources as good as, or better than, their own.

coachdriver I realise the sensitivity of some folk in Queensland over matters Bombardier.which became apparent in the summer 2006-07.The accident of August 2006 would have impacted heavily on the opening of Mandurah line had it have been ready in July 2007. The operation of that line was contingent on the full complement of 31 "B" sets being available at startup with the assistance of a limited number of "A" sets. The existing rail system is also increasing, and there would have been a strain to release any further "A" sets deployed  for use on the Clarkson-Mandurah service. When the second order of 15 "B" sets become available by 2010 we in WA will have a system comparable to the excellent service you have in Brisbane. If our resources boom continues the folk at Maryborough will be kept busy.

Methinks you're selling your current system a bit short.  As I have said elsewhere, some systems could look to your system for hints.  Although I have only had two quick trips there recently and had limited time to use both train and bus travel, I was most impressed.

Being both to Brisbane and living in Perth, I have to say that while Brisbane has a very extensive network covering most parts of the city and inter-city (Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast), Perth's system in my books wins in terms of efficiency.

Perth's rail system is the best in the country and as Coachdriver said, other systems should look to Perth as inspiration.

Car 60 is back in service and has been for about 2 months now.

EDI Nowergup stitched the good end of 053 to the good bit of car 60 and got it back into service and it will remain like this.

I heard a story that the 2 cars in Queensland will be stitched to the trailer car of 53 and this will make the 53 car set. It is said that they are due back at the end of October.

The eyes in Qld may see any action happening and can give us the latest at the Factory.

Hi all!

Interestingly I travelled into Perth this morning on a 6 car train consisting of sets 53 and 60.

Obviously they managed to couple them at a slightly lower velocity this time!  8)

is the Mandurah depo the same as the one that use to be at currambine? so it's not a full depo like Claisebrook or Nowergup? where abouts is it in regards to the Mandurah station?

Layout-wise it is reminiscent of Claisebrook. That is, you pass the depot as the train heads into Mandurah station. [/i]

to go into the depot they have to go into the station, get permission from control, turn around to then do a shunt to get into the depot.

As Tomohawk said it has a layout like claisebrook but it lacks the buildings, washing areas and workshops that Claisebrook and Nowergup has. The depot is just a set storage area and crew base in a way.

Been reading thru this thread with interest.

Does anyone remember when A class sets 317/226 were joined together around 1993-94 for a long time? I'd have to assume that these 2 sets collided at some stage similar to what happened to sets 53 and 60.

Set 17 still had the battle scars in the metal side sheeting last time I saw it.

I know it was many years ago but does anyone know what happened?

Also if you look closely B class set 53 has a different and smaller fleet number font ont he drivers cab (553 car).
