Putting Ramsden St aside, surely one of the smartest approaches would be to leave the down platform in place (for heritage reasons) and rebuild the up as an island platform closer to the current down  ...

Witnessed this one happen yesterday, as my workplace backs onto the lines between East Richmond and Burnley.

The new screens do actually provide additional information, as seen in the posts above they add:

- Current time (very useful for outer-suburban platforms)
