I'll kick this off. Anyone want to guess where this photo was taken?

Future quizzes can be photos or suitably cryptic questions.

Stuart

I'll show you all how little I know of Tassie by guessing wildly - approaching Railton?

I'm also going to have a rough stab at this. I say Coldwater Creek Junction on the North East line/Bell Bay line?

this is a tough one, the rails are shiny on both bits of track so it would suggest they both get some regular use.  i am trying to think of places where you would have stopped etc. on your railcar tour.

this is a pretty bad guess but i am going to say mowbray junction.

A few interesting guesses so far, but nothing really close.

TR2100 was on the right track (no that isn't a clue) when he assumed I took the photo last month, although this photo was actually taken while the train was still moving.

This photo was taken on the Tuesday when DP26 travelled empty from Hobart to Burnie, and I'm standing next to the driver looking out the front of the train.

See how that lot goes for the next few days. Thats cuts it down to 350 odd kilometers to choose from . . . .

Ok, let start to wrap this up. The photo was taken within Western Junction yard limits, so thats somewhere between around Evandale to the crossing on the way to Perth.

If anyone can name the siding or just describe where it actually is, they can have the next question (or just the smug satisfaction of being the winner)

The siding into the mill just west of Western Junction. That looks like river flat and the mountains on the left.

"Tool"

That will do. Its had various names over the years, but at the moment its TBM Siding or sometimes Tasmanian Board Mills.

I lived in Launceston for 9 years and chased a few trains in that area. I thought of it at the start of the quiz, but it didn't look right when you've never been on that piece of track - let alone out the front of the train. Good quiz picture. If a few mm was shaved off the left side of photo it could easily pass for somewhere down the EBR.

Someone else can put up the next question. I've got an archeological photo which will take some finding (no pun intended).

Well, this quiz has stalled somewhat. So here's something to get it moving again.

i think all of us were too courteous to steal tools thunder, but thanks for setting the wheels in motion once again B67.

well, i am sure one day one of these will just jump out of the screen at me and i will be able to say "yes! i know exactly where that is!"  that day is not yet upon us.

however, my guess...

its not right in fingal is it?  near fingal park???

Very nice guess. It is at Fingal. I won't pretend to know exactly where. But I think it was a little east of the station towards the coal loader.  I'd just got off the second loco (Z1) after cab riding from Conara Jcn early one morning.   Very Happy

ha ha that one didn't last very long at all... never actually been to fingal, but the northern street directory came in handy...

ok, so here is one i dont reckon anyone will find in a street directory (if u can scan it for a laugh)...

where is this taken?

a road name would be nice in the answer, but just a vague location will be fine i guess if thats all we can manage 8)

Hmm, is it along the Tea Tree Road, past Tea Tree crossing, on the way to Campania ?

Sorry for the delay. My picture is with relatives who are away in Qld for a while.

That last quiz pix looks like Sisters Hills (wild guess)

no not sisters hill.

time for a clue...

it was taken on an empty carriage movement between New Norfolk and Don, late november 2004.

Coal Mine Bend, heading up the hill between Colebrook and Rhyndaston (or more accurately between Mud Walls Rd crossing and Rhyndaston Rd crossing).

If it was Y2 heading the train, I'd say it was stopped due to overheating rather than a photo stop.
