I still haven't heard any reports on AN3's overhaul since it went in.

May only be a matter of time before the current Ghan livery will disappear from all 4 locos Wink

A bit I guess. The 3 NR's (74, 75 & 109) currently in Ghan livery are somewhat due for a repaint in a more updated Ghan livery (like NR18 in the latest IP livery). When I went to the Ghan open day in June last year, there was a fair bit of rust around the windows of 2 Ghan-liveried locos there.

PL1 was busy assembling another Ghan set into Platform 3 just prior to 1AD8's departure.
Yes, the second weekly Ghan (4AD8 / 7DA8 ) commences on Wednesday 21st
Will be interesting to see if the second loco is stationed in Alice Springs for the Alice-Darwin legs.

As to repaints Rhys, it will all depend on GSR as they are the ones who paid for their special liveries on NR 18, 25, 26, 27, 28, 74, 75, 84, 85, 109 and AN3.

Interestingly, there was speculation in early 2011 that NR's 74, 75, and 109 would lose their GSR livery for the current PN stars livery, yet they survived to today.

Another item of interest is that any references to the "Southern Spirit" have disappeared from GSR's website totally!
  ANR Chief Commissioner

There has to be some marketing mileage out of having IP and Ghan liveried locos. I AM sure that GSR will pay for a repaint. Maybe there will be other locos slated for this honor. The PN scheme is grotesque. Even NR had a nice earthy gold or orange with silver. Bring back the AN colours.

When we travelled on the Ghan over three years ago, the marketing manager was part of the train crew under the previous CEO's work experience program. We were chatting in the lounge car, and he advised then that GSR already had designs similar in style to the yellow IP and SS prepared for the repainting of the Ghan locos. Didn't mention colours though.

Drawings of the proposed paint schemes hit the internet around the time of the release of the two Southern Spirit liveried NRs (84, 85)
The original schemes had a white cab with multi-shaded sides, Green with the Star logo for Southern Spirit, Yellow with the flying Eagle for the IP,  Red with the Camel for the Ghan and, believe it or not, Blue with the Emu logo for the Overland.
The Southern Spirit locos came out with a Grey Cab Roof. The IP (NR18 ) with a Yellow Cab with Grey Roof
The was a thread on the colour schemes, but that was a few years ago now.

On Tuesday evening nr's 109 & 75 were on train AM5. No further word on the whereabouts of these locos on Gheringhap, so maybe going in for an Overdue repaint?

Nice try Rhys, but no cigar........... NR75 returned to Adelaide on Saturday 14th on MP7 (From Gheringhap website)

1AD8 today ex APT, 20 mins late at 12:40pm**

** Seems that supposedly "uncaring and belligerent" GSR staff where kind enough to delay the departure today for late arrival of Guests (passengers) from an Airline connection.

Guess I was wrong again. But who knows what'll become of the current Ghan liveried nr's?

Today AN3 was spotted outside Port Augusta workshops in PN stars livery.

And just to aid Greasyrhys repaint fetish ...... NR74's cab roof colour is fading badly Wink

The 3 nr's in Ghan colours are definitely fading, less than 3 weeks ago I saw one with a bit of a dirty front.
