Yep...the Ghan was right up the clacker of 4AD1.....only 20 minutes behind or 1 blockpoint!
"EMD"

45 minutes apart they were. I spoke with the driver off 7DA2 this morning when he gave me a wake up call at 07:30 this morning. 7DA2 left at 09:15 and 7DA8 was due out at 10:00. I am not sure on the actual departure time, I am guessing it would have been about 10:20. I was down the track near the Eliziberth River and took this photo about 10:45

It is good to see a pointy loco on the pointy end of a train again.

NR109 was on todays Ghan, left Alice running "B" end first. I've got photos in Railpage shared galleries/NT/locomotives

Thursdays' Ghan from Darwin had NR109 leading AN3 & todays Ghan has NR109 again at the front. It came into Alice "B" end first.

Todays Ghan from Alice to darwin has NR109 leading AN3 both "A" end first. Seems NR109 & AN3 are regulars on the Ghan now after not being seen for a whle. Now we'll be looking out for when one of the four GHAN locos isn't on the Ghan.

Are AN1 & AN7 still going to get the Ghan livery?. Its been talked about in Railpage australia sometime back but haven't seen anything.

Now for something completely different, AN3 led NR74 on the Ghan from Darwin this morning. Normally the NR had the lead but a change is as good as a holiday.

That would be right and I am in Far North Qld.
Does anyone know why ?
Has the TT failed AGAIN ?

Hay, hang on. What is the Ghan doing leaving Darwin on a Thursday ?
I was about to hit the submit button when something didn't look right. It should be out of Alice today.

Did you see it in Darwin ?

Nope saw it in Alice this morning, just badly worded my post.

Both units were "A" end first, so the TT must be working or AN3 went up "B" end first with another engine in the lead & a loco change was done with NR74 which was facing "A" end south before the TT failed...who knows?

The AN normally travels both ways facing south. Maybe NR74 has failed. Even if the TT in Darwin is U/S, they can turn at the Katherine or Tennant Creek triangles.

All the Ghan engines must be elsewhere today as NR2 hauled the Ghan into Alice yard. Must of been turned at Roe Creek as it run into town "B" end first.

Where are these two places? Or is the same place with a typo?

Never knew that the NT Cattlemans Asscoiation owned any of the rail infrastructure in that area. Besides the triangle what else is there that belongs to the NT Cattlemans Asscoiation?

How much of Roe Creek yard is left? Some of it was cleaned up during the construction of the Alice-Darwin line as this is where the line was moved from rail to trucks for the trip north.

MEERINEE is the name of the meerinee oil siding about 2 ks south of roe creek
is  used by the fuel mob that have a well out by meerinee loop of  back road to kings canyon through hermansburg
in old days oil/diesel used to be railed from meerinee siding to adelaide before frieghtlink  came on scene
now trucked out by scotty transport

all of roe creek is the same as always

if u what to have a look at these places mate drive out and have a look to get to both sidings from alice go down stuart hway till u see sign for roe creek and further down u will see a sign to go to meerinee
the whole trip will only take an hour

Is Roe Creek where the Brewer Industrial Estate is? (in the left heading south near the Pine Gap turn-off)
Are they expanding the Meerinee gas & oil fields as the electrician I work for did some work at a camp down that area a couple of weeks ago. He said something to do with a second oil deposit in the area.

I saw that, I was at the river just down from the Keswick Station. NR82 is looking very sad. Nice to see AN3 looking as good as ever.

Looks like a few of the NT Railpagers are in Adelaide, I ran into Ike at the Railway Museum.

Todays Ghan out of Darwin had NR74 and AN11. The AN looking splendid in AN green and yellow, still with all the AN logo's.

Ghan loco's currntly out of action that the crew knew about are -
AN3 - Aircon repairs.
NR75 - Engine componant repairs. Not sure what the problem is.

Also of note - there was a lot, more than alot, of smoke comming from NR74. I was looking for the steam loco or the 48's.

NR75 is heading west on WP2. Past it this morning at Aylmerton at around 0535. It was leading another NR and an AN( both NR colours).
