It would be good if they would get BR's old Steamer and Desiel Too.

They look in great condition. Will they be used in regular service, or on specials?

I might make my first ZZR visit (after all these years, I've never been) to ride them.

Shocked  I nearly choked when I saw this... How did BR end up with this carriage?  It was part of QR's heritage VIP fleet, I would have thought QR wouldn't have parted with it for anything...

(Interesting, my notes show this as being the Ministers car, the Commish's car being 491...)

Sorry, but this van is a particular sore point with me...  It (was) a CSV... a Composite Sleeper Van - one.of.a.kind, unique, never to be repeated.
I don't lay claim to be a rivet counter, and realise that things can't always be preserved in their original condition... but in my mind, what they did to 1053 was just...wrong...

Like i said in another post, things are better with pictures... I took these when I was relieving in Hughenden, in 1992.  (Apologies for the cruddy quality - overcast day, and the first (and last, iirc) time I used Agfa film...oh, and amateur photographer...)

Even though I'm not happy with 1053's "restoration", I am glad to see that all(?) of the BR carriages are going to good homes.  It's always sad to see historic QR equipment leaving the state, but that is offset in the knowledge that ZZR will look after them... just remember that you've got some very special stuff there, Maikha... Where are they going to park all this stuff? it looks crowded down at the depot already, it will have to undergo a  major expansion.

They are such beautiful carriages, I wouldn't be risking anything with these, I think they would be better off under cover in a shed.  Time to extend I think.

At the shed. What makes you think it's crowded? Currently the Commissioner's car is in the shed, the BUV is on the road outside, and the Hughenden should also be under cover.

We've had perway and track machines stabled on the extension for years now. They're still there and look about the same since we left them there.

Also, we regularly stable carriages in the Goods Siding at Clarence for days at an end, and they'll still be the same when I go and pick them up one Sat Morning.

I'm sure those considerations/proposals are constantly devised by the board. We'll just have to wait and see  Wink

Too right, particularly when we have two of them already!

John and others in QLD, don't worry mate, the carriages are most certainly in good hands and I will take care of them as if they were mine. Particularly the end observation compartment in the Commissioner's car which now makes my new Guard's Compartment  Very Happy

Muahahahaha! And I thought my GSR Guarding counterparts had a good workplace in their powervans.

I think that the Zig Zag Railway is a great society with a positive outlook into now and the future, It is a must visit again for me when up that way next. Also those new cars would look great with the BB and the red tank loco. But when restore would look wounderful behind the big Baldwin AC 16 class steam locomotive. Well done ZZR, I wish it every success and you to Maikha Very Happy .

Why didn't you buy the McDonald's carriage Sad
"Somebody in the WWW"

Was that a serious or rhetorical question?

If it's rhetorical.... because I certainly don't want to guard a train with Ronald on-board (What I'll happily do, is at Top Points, drop him off dooooooooooowwwwwwwwnnnnnnnn into Ida Falls Gully).

If serious question, because there isn't a McDonalds anywhere near the ZZR, nor do we have birthday party charters that frequently. Most important, why should we warrant the extra cost for this car?

Is the Mcdonalds at lithgow too far away for you Maika? Considdering Mcdonalds is a sponsor of ZZR and they pay all of the running costs for that car, wouldn't it be a sensibal option for ZZR? 8)

I'm sure the board and management can sort the details of any such 'sponsorship'. I couldn't care less about those things, as I'm just a guard  Razz

(To answer your question, yes, that would be a sensible option I'd support).

Where is the Maccas in Lithgow? Is it out on the highway like all the others? And what's wrong with the Lithgow Workers Club (Or the Emerald Lantern Chinese)? You certainly get a great feed from that place than the Golden Arches will ever give.

I'm sure they will be a great assest to the railway.

I understand the ZZR operate a blues train, maybe the former Beaudesert Rail carriages will earn a living on these trains for obvious reasons?

They are being prepared for this weekend when all three steam locomotives will be out in force for the Harry potter weekend, all carriages needed.
