I have to nominate Riccardo's thread in the SA section 'Rann the man says keep the tin cans' since it went into every problem our suburban system had, not least of which the track which shut a few interstaters about going ahead with electrification!

As history has panned out, EVERYTHING from top to bottom is set to be rebuilt with sparks running in Adelaide.

I am nominating the Fire on Train thread with the informative debate between Oldfart and Little Toot on flammability, combustibility and application of standards to structures and operations in railways. Although a short thread, and sometimes cheeky thread, it was *very* informative.  Very Happy

Grantham, for Is LGB track diswasher safe

Hi...I expect to want to lay some of my LGB track in dirty places (steam loco shed floor!) several times over the next month or so, has anyone here tried washing LGB track in the dishwasher? It's supposed to be ok, but I thought I'd try and find out if anyone here had done it with no ill effects.

Quambatook, for these suggestions on what to say to the other half about the credit card balance.

Linky

Things to say to the the other half when the credit card statement appears next month.

"Honey, I went to the exhibition at Caulfield and the $295 bill from "Aus... is for a couple of coffees and lunch I shouted the lads. (very expensive coffee in Melbourne)

"Their must be some mistake, leave it to me I will sort it out with the bank"- as you justify the must have new rollingstock just released.

"Think of this as an investment in our childrens future" - as you justify another new release VR locomotive.

"For Mothers day next year instead of leaving it to the last minute with the children dragging in some half- dead flowers and a card constructed at school, we have put a sizeable deposit on heaps of new soon to be released VR carriages."- COOL!!!

No responsibility taken if you use one of the above statements.

This e-mail written and authorised by the Quambatook- lots of drought and Locusts but might make a wheat harvest this year party.

Best Thread Nomination (crossposted from Best Newcomer)

Shunting Questions Thread

Posts and photos in other threads like the shunting questions thread also paint a picture of what life used to be like. Posts like oldguy's should be recognised because as time marches on, the opportunity for young people to hear about them becomes less and less.

You beat me to it lsrailfan, dagnabbit Evil or Very Mad

Seriously, it's a damn good thread; what makes it worthy of nomination is the fact that several of the posters were there - and some of their recollections have now been recorded in that thread 8)  8)  8) instead of the sad possibility that such will die with them. The importance of recording, recollecting and posting such things cannot be underestimated.

Convention dictates that you don't normally embed images in quote-blocks.

When Brendan posted an embedded animation in the Richmond Station redevelopment thread, Deep Throat ignored HeisdeadJim's complaint that his eyes were hurting and posted something like this.
You know, Those images taught me something.

There's nothing wrong with Richmond as it is, It just needs more animation.

I didn't realise until a few hours later, The .gif STB posted is from the TV show "30 Rock" - I can't remember what the context it's shown in, but the quote that precedes it...
"My exercise video is dropping soon. It's called "Jenna gets hard."
