Miscellaneous NSW sightings

Down Gunning for a few days and got this for a change from the usual 81 & 82 procession,  44202 leading Qube's up grain yesterday (2/1/12) at top bridge Cullerin Ranges
That leading 44202 is fast approaching its half century as wiki says it left AE Goodwin's Sydney factory in 1971. I am ignoring the possible 'Grandfather's Axe' scenario regarding how much is original etc etc. I am also ignoring any parts that were originally in the 40 class and reworked and fitted to the 442s, which is all covered in various books readily available anyway. If interested in these 442 matters, start a separate thread or read

petan
If I was considering painting an old Alco, black with dark grey highlights might be suitable.

Thanks Booly. Very helpful.
The wagons on the front are RKKY 3-unit wagons conveying steel billets which originate from Whyalla. These wagons were built for National Rail in the 1990s with the intended ability to carry both steel billets and steel slab on different legs of their journeys. The doorless opens further down the train are a mixture but mostly carrying RSJs (rolled steel joists) which also originate at Whyalla. These wagons highlight the waste of train length and tare weight frequently seen in the RSJ traffic.

Thanks, YM. Your response was also helpful.
Didn’t know what RSJ stood for.

Thanks Booly.
Glad that I spelled RSJ out and thanks for acknowledging that.
Unexplained acronyms on RP are one of my 'things'.
I like your real life photos.

Hi all I went to Leightonfield today, unfortunately I only came away with one train, it is as follows

YM's post reminded me of a play on words:-

Regarding the Rolled Steel Joists, I once asked an architect mate of mine about the difference between a girder and a joist. He gave me 3 or 4 solid minutes on the subject until I told him he was wrong - Girder wrote Faust and Joist wrote Ulysses. I got away unscathed - just.

Something different, these SCT Vans have been stowed at Hawksbury River Loop for well over a week now, they were off 4BM9 from last Thursday, because the North Coast line is closed, no BM9 Service can collect them -
