Yesterday train no. 5CA3 hauled by GL110-GL105 ran to the GrainFlow Mallala loop to load 36 hoppers, & stabled overnight.

This morning the loaded train ran as 7AV4. It went to Two Wells for the locos to run around, this departed approx. 7:45am.

Tailem Bend grain trains are BACK!!!

After just over 2 months without any to said location, today FQ02-ALF20-ALF19-2212-GM38-FQ04 hauled 50 hoppers bound for Tailem.

Good to see GWA are finally running the longer trains on the south line now two.

Really they should be using 3 or 4 of their high horse power locos with 60 or 70 hoppers to get better economies of scale and less breakdowns, but at least an increase from 40 to 50 hoppers is a 25% efficiency increase.

They could do that, but that wouldn't be good for us enthusiasts, we love the old stuff powering up the hills. Plus most of the locos that are around the 4,000hp mark are needed on the Adelaide-Darwin route (intermodal & iron ore) anyway.

I am also an enthusiast an I would much rather see a GWU, GWA or FQ than an old almost life expired bulldog or 700.

I am on the low side of 35 though and have never been able to understand the baby boomers fascination with bulldog locos.

Today's 3PM1 (Aurizon freight from Perth to Melbourne) had a somewhat rare visitor, LZ3103 was the second loco behind 6029. The former was dropped off at Port Flat, & is just about certain to be attached to 5MP1 tomorrow. Here's a video:

Follow the track going of to the left and you'll end up in Perth.
