So how many new sets are there to go... guessing we'll get them all this year? If they keep up the pace they did with the previous new stock which was about one a month I think though for a while it seemed we were getting a new train every other day.

Hm never mind looking at Vicsig the set Brendon03 mentions above is the first of 5 new 6 car sets that are due.

Up to 169M-1385T-170M-171M-1386T-172M at testing stage. 165M thru 168M are the most recent in service, still with that 'new car' smell.

Also of note, a test train of Mk I and II Xtrapolis 93M-1347T-94M-909M-1655T-910M are running around today; first time I've seen that...

Interesting. As a revenue train or empty cars?

I wonder how long it takes to lose that smell and gain the "skank" smell.

Just give the set 1 trip on the Broady line at any hour of the day or night and it will soon lose its new smell Laughing

No wonder! I wouldn't be running them to Broadmeadows / Craigieburn either!!!
If I was in charge of the Rolling Stock branch, all that line would get is refurbished Hitachi's considering the way some of the locals treat the trains Laughing

Yes, my apoliges T411, Hitachi's do deserve better than a day out on the Craigieburn line.
They are, I guess, the geriatrics of the system now, and could probably be best suited to the Alamein or Williamstown shuttles!!!! Smile

Yes, xxxxlbear, but then, Williamstown residents are (generally) wealthy types and simply wouldn't stand for being treated that way (forced to ride in a rackety old Hitachi) by Metro!

Bump.

I caught a mixed series 1/series 2 set on an up Belgrave (Ringwood shuttle) just before midnight last night, with 36M leading. The consist was 36M-1318T-35M-870M-1635T-869M. I have one shoddy photo of 35M and 870M coupled at Ringwood if anyone is interested.
