    All V/Line P class committed plus a couple of Push pull N class trains I believe, with SH30 in the shops there will be a majority 8 car push pulls either 3 +4 or 5 +3 , or 4 +3  a few 2 x FN-N and a sole VLH push pull, some trains will be formed by VL units as well, 3 x 2 , and 2 x 3, other services will  be built up, even revamped Z 57 may get a guernsey.

    At least three V/Line trains cancelled due to shortage of drivers yesterday.

    Next week, will they start banking drivers hours to have enough drivers for the Airshow?

    I'm surprised they wouldn't be using Sprinters for such duties. After all, six Sprinters would carry about 540 people (assuming 90 a Sprinter). That's more than an 8 car push-pull H set or seven car V/Lo. Hell, three Sprinters sit stabled at Geelong all weekend anyway (together with plenty of carriages)

    Aren't 8 Sprinters able to be used together as well?

    I wonder if there'll be many up Airshow services, I've already got a periodical ticket, and may be a better idea to park at South Geelong and train it to Lara than park the car at Avalon.

    Despite the amount of additional services, theres still standees!

    H sets are the best suited members of V/Line's fleet for standing passengers, followed by VLocities, N Sets and Sprinters. H Sets also provide the most capacity in relation to platform lengths at Lara.

    8 Sprinters are able to be used together; but this hasn't been done for some time (I believe last time in revenue service was over a decade ago); and would exceed the platform length.

    For the airshow, I don't think those carriages won't be stabled at Geelong over the weekends!

    There's typically a few extra ups for the airshow; and yes, it is a better idea to park at South Geelong and train it to Lara than trying to battle the traffic and finding a park at Avalon Razz

    The following alterations/additional empty cars services will operate on Friday 13th March to provide rollingstock for the airshow specials:-

    - Additional empty car services have been scheduled to operate from Bacchus Marsh to Southern Cross following the afternoon peak on Friday 13th to provide six H sets (two FSH's, two SH's, one VSH, one VLH), four P classes and two N classes.
    - The 1745 down Kyneton on Friday 13th will consist of three sprinters in lieu of the usual VLH set, freeing this set up for the airshow.
    - The 2020 up Seymour is altered to consist of 2xN Locos+VSH+FSH sets

    The trains will return empty cars to Bacchus Marsh early Monday morning (except for one which is Sunday night), and a down Seymour service on Sunday night will consist of the 2 locos and 9 H cars.

    According to http://www.vline.com.au, trains will be operating every 10 minutes between Southern Cross and Lara during peak times.


    Timetable



    Trade days

    During the Trade only days of the Airshow V/Line’s normal timetable Geelong ‑ Melbourne will be operating.  Shuttles between Lara and Avalon connect with trains.


    Public days

    During the public days of the Airshow V/Line operates additional services, departing Southern Cross Station approximately every 10 minutes during peak times.  Shuttles between Lara and Avalon meet all trains.



    More detail will be available closer to the event.

    Sorry to lean this off topic, but on the V/line website, it said the only disruption was that the station wasn't being stopped at. I didn't know they were closing the whole line. Shocked

    You need to look a bit deeper into these things. The whole lines being closed for the weekend only.

    The up platform at Craigieburn will be closed from Tuesday 10th March until further notice as its being reconstructed (similar to what happened with the down platform as part of the initial electrification works).

    The V/Line site speaks of this weekends closure here, stating "Due to Connex track works between Broadmeadows and Craigieburn, all Seymour and Shepparton train services will be replaced by road coaches."

    The Connex site states here that "Due to improvement works at Craigieburn, buses will replace the last two late-night services between Broadmeadows and Craigieburn on:

    Friday 6 March
    Friday 17 April

    Buses will also replace trains between Broadmeadows and Craigieburn all day on:

    Saturday 7, Sunday 8 and Monday 9 March (Labour Day long weekend)
    Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April"

    Will be very interesting to see what V/Line do with all the Avalon airshow specials along with Geelong playing in next weeks NAB cup grand final against Collingwood at Docklands Stadium.

    Presumably, the game will be on Saturday night as per the usual NAB cup grand final timeslot, which will mean plenty of people heading home from the airshow, and to the footy around the same time.................
