Wagons in Paddocks (and other places)

  trainiac Chief Train Controller

Couldn't find a thread in this direction, thought i'd give it a go as I keep spotting wagon bodies in odd places. Thought i'd note some down before I forget.
First:
EE in yard William st, brighton
EEP in Elphinstone Rd, Cressy (on left heading to Bracknell) http://www.flickr.com/photos/29903115@N06/3184444540/
ES as above, on right
Cattle or sheep wagon as above (still with buffers)
EE as above! (bit of a hot bed!)
E van in Bracknell (on left heading west)
ES in Deloraine, behind the station site in an industrial yard on the right
A cattle or sheep van is further down this road, i think! East Westbury Pl is the name of the street i think
ES next to the antiques and old wares establishment before Elizabeth Town

Thats all I can think of at the mo

Good initiative James!

I would love to see this thread develop as a bit of a database to track a lot of the stuff lying around the countryside. Might even lead to some stuff that has disappeared off the Tas. network over recent years finally turn up (some may even be complete or with essential parts!). We need to try and get numbers however, if possible.

When I get a moment, I will look up some of the interesting 'paddock' sightings I have made over the years.

Cheers,

Most are well off the road on private property, so are difficult to get numbers. I must take more pics as i see them too

Good idea to carry binoculars or a telescope!

I'd particularly like to find out what happened to the -N-3 bogie camp from Golconda, EE24 from Fingal and the ES's from Bridgewater (ES8 and ES31), so if anyone sights them, yell out!

It would also be good to know if any sighted items are either complete, or still have essential parts like vacuum gear or buffers / hooks, etc.

Didn't someone mention a while ago, that they knew someone who knew someone who had the Flying Flea originally from Rocherlea?

Flying Flea reportedly in the Inveresk area bounded by Foster street, Invermay Rd and Lamont Street.
A P.N. Driver knows where it is.
There are two flat top wagons in a paddock on the approaches to the Illawarra Rd interchange when heading from Launceston.

There was or is?  a red DB van on the road to Oldina forest west of Wynyard.  Was or is next to the road.  Last time i saw it it was in great condition body wise,  but not sure about any running gear.

Shame the EEP van was never saved, would have been a handy vehicle

Very true,  anything is possible.  All depends on the underframe and if they butchered it.

Dennis,
I thought all the carriages resident at Evandale had been scrapped, with parts recovered by the DRR? Or was that just the L&WR bodies (the 'A' class etc.?).

Was racing (dirt bikes) in a farmers paddock yesterday, between Elderslie and Dysart, there looked to be a FFC or flat wagon being used as a bridge.

All the ones I KNOW of (Craig!?!?!?) have been said.

My dad was telling me he was at 195 Lalla road Lilydale today and he was talking to a bloke who said he was digging on his property a while ago and dug up a track and sleepers he thought there might have been an old siding there or something. Theres also an old carriage there.

Have seen a van out in a property on Stowport Road.  It has been repainted by the owner but do not know what type she is.  On the right hand side as you dive out past Stowport and Natone.

My recollection this is a DB van.
There used to be a cream and red EEP van on a property close to the Hospital at Scotsdale.

Which is what I hoped this thread could assist in! But so far, other than lots of reports of theres a wagon here and a wagon there (Well....yeah...we all know theres heaps of wagon bodies about!!.... Rolling Eyes ), there is precious little real useful info coming through....i.e. numbers, condition (e.g. underframe? buffers? vacuum gear? wheels?), directions to locate (map co-ordinates?).

So come on people! Details, details, details!!! Obviously I wouldn't advocate trespassing to get a close look if the body is deep in private property, but as best as one could do in determining as much info as possible would be great!

Which brings to mind a well known "paddock wagon" location no one has mentioned yet (remember the obvious as well as the obscure!)

Hillwood Strawberry Farm; (Approx. Lat. 43.4º Long. 49.9º Tas. 1:250,000; East Tamar on Road C727)
EVP2 & EXP6; both complete; wheels, buffers, drawgear,vacuum gear.

Cheers,
SZ
