K 160 is out of action with a small hole in the J pipe. I had fun with it today removing the dome cover as well as the regulator.  So poor ol' "Klunk" will be sidelined for a while.

So is the pipe to be replaced? Or repaired by brazing?

The pipe is going to be replaced as they have a spare there.

Good news for you lovers of K 160..."she" has a new J jipe in and did a trip today. Dad, Dave and I removed the valve out of the fireman's side to of J 515 to find that it was dry as...meaning there was no lubrication getting to it. So it might mean a bit of fix job. Traced the problem to a blocked lubricating check valve.

Some pics from yesterday.

For those who don't visit the Victorian thread-

Maldon Railway Station was burnt down overnight.

Investigations are underway into the cause.

What a devastating blow to a wonderful tourist railway.  I hope it wasn't an arson attack, that would be a real shame.  Sad

This afternoon I noticed a crane and semi trailer going into the VGR compound in Castlemaine.
A drive by after work revealed a water tower on its side down by the turntable.
It looks very similar to the Woodend water tower and wonder if it has been shifted due to the platform extensions there.

A great contribution to the VGR collection, perhaps it will be used at the Castlemaine end of the line? As there is already a water tower/tank in operation at Maldon.

Good to hear the railway is still pushing on during these tough times.

Wel I can confirm the Woodend water tower went missing over the weekend due to platform extensions, glad to see it ended up somewhere local.

I'm guessing this is the former Steamrail tank. At least it has found a new home.  8)

Bill

It was a driver experience trip.

The J was again running today and having now entered the Fire Danger Period, they have the fire patrol behind every train.

That's good that the building appeares to be sound up to this point. Let's just hope that this is the case to have it rebuilt in which it will be.

"639"

J541 was on a wedding special to Muckleford and back yesterday.
Yesterday (14/11/09) Dad and I were at Maldon working on J 549. We removed the automatic staff exchanger as there was a bit of rust in the cab which dad eventually cut out so a new piece could be welded in. At one stage being the unfortunate smallest person in the workshop yesterday, I had to climb into J 549's firebox so as to hold the end of a tape so the right measurements could be made for a new tube to be placed into the boiler. It's a prick of a place in the firebox, let me tell you! Ol' K160 has a hole in the steam delivery pipe from the smokebox to the cylinders so that needs to be replaced. J 515 has blown a superheated element so the rest of the elements were removed to see if they were ok. With the Maldon station building, the brickwork is sound which is very good news indeed. I'll put up some pictures from yesterday eventually when I can be stuffed!!

In other news, a start has been made on the completion of 3 road at Muckleford. The alignment has been graded and the track bed ballast laid.

Seems pretty unusual to me to have the main "information" part of the screen as a strip in the middle of the right-hand frame, with a variable amount of white space either side. But otherwise it seems to be working for me in both Firefox and IE7.
