    Absolute chaos on the Clifton Hill line this morning with all of the special trains cancelled due to train faults according to the Metro platform manequin.

    I finally forced my way onto a train on the third attempt at Victoria Park, there were still hundreds on the platform when we departed.

    When we arrived at West Richmond I estimate there were 3=400 people waiting with maybe one or two managing to get on at each door.

    It was a horror show.

    Another bad morning for commuters (including me) on the Clifton Hill group this morning with an "overhead power failure at Alphington" causing all sorts of problems.

    By the time I boarded at Vic Park around 8.30 Down trains were crawling through every couple of minutes stop starting due to congestion with trains out of position all over the shop.

    More major planned shutdowns continue over the next few months. I shudder to think of what Metro's bus replacement invoice must look like!

    Frankston line:
    Until Sunday 17/6: Buses replace trains between Carrum, Frankston and Stony Point due to station upgrade and Level Crossing Works.

    AND until Monday 11/6: Buses replace trains between Flinders Street and Moorabbin.
    - Express shuttle operates from Brighton Beach to Moorabbin.

    Cranbourne & Pakenham lines:
    Until Monday 11/6: Buses replace trains between Flinders Street and Westall.
    - Limited Express shuttle operates from Burnley to Caulfield-Clayton.
    - Express shuttle operates from East Malvern to Westall.

    Tuesday 12/6 - Sunday 17/6: Buses continue to replace trains between Caulfield and Westall due to Skyrail works.
    - Limited express shuttle operates from Malvern (trains are making additional stops) to Oakleigh-Clayton. All other passengers go via Caulfield.

    Saturday 30/6 - Sunday 8/7: Buses replace trains between Dandenong and Cranbourne/Pakenham (extending to Westall on weekends).

    Craigieburn line:
    Thursday 21/6 - Wednesday 27/6: Buses replace trains between Newmarket and Broadmeadows, due to level crossing removal at Buckley St Essendon.
    - Express shuttles operate from Flemington Racecourse to Essendon & Broadmeadows.

    Hurstbridge & South Morang lines
    Saturday 16/6 - Sunday 17/6: Buses replace trains between Parliament and Bell/Heidelberg.

    Werribee line:
    Saturday 16/6 - Sunday 29/7: Buses replace Altona Loop trains Newport to Laverton, with all Werribee trains running express, whilst the Kororoit Creek Road level crossing is removed.

    Various night/weekend shutdowns will also occur on the above lines.

    Also, there's an article behind the paywall on the HeraldSun mentioning that the Eltham Trestle Bridge is structurally unsound and there's a speed restriction on it until it's fixed.

    Structurally unsound eh? Perfect time to duplicate all the way to Hurstbridge. Maybe the Yarra Valley Railway can teach them a thing or two about building trestles out of steel, give them a billion or two for the job with some spare change to rebuild the Healesville line to Lilydale. One can only dream...

    No trains between Westall and Oakleigh due to a signal fault, Westall is flooded with people at the moment. Just goes to show that the government doesn't know how to build a station and that Metro doesn't know how to run trains.

    delays on craigieburn line today. station annoucement "train stuck at glenroy and police operation at pascoe vale, delays up to 30 minutes"
    according to metro website,
    Minor Delays • 1 hour agoDelays up to 15 minutes after an earlier ill passenger at North Melbourne and unruly passengers at Pascoe Vale. Listen for announcements as some services may be altered at short notice.

    And it's deja vu all over again this morning!

    Signal fault at Victoria Park, not sure about others as that is where I got on but all services delayed. Our train had to SPAD at Vic Park, the driver asked everyone to hold on tight as we tripped the emergency brake release and then we were off again after a short stop.

    Got to FS and we were only 2 minutes late then held there for 8 minutes for no apparent reason save for the fact that we didn't seem to have a driver!

    Luckily my V/Line service was also late and I made the connection with a minute to spare!

    No fun on the Werribee line this morning. Equipment faults at sth Kensington and new port as well as several train faults. 801 Werribee canceled as well. Running maybe 20-30 mins late. Sitting between sth Kennington and nth Melbourne waiting for the track to clear and given we just went through a red as well (in the lees carnage and heard the twps trip), caution orders to get issued. This train is also hunting bad on the tracks something shocking. Driver is definitely holding back over 80kph

    Something I had never seen before also today. Train full of people arrived on the down as my 811 service was just about to depart Werribee, which is very odd. Find out they all got on at Williams landing after the previous service skipped their station on the up. Standing room only at hoppers as a result.

    chaos for Craigieburn line afternoon commuters as track fault is discovered at Essendon. line is suspended

    Suspended • 19 minutes agoBuses will replace trains between Newmarket/Flemington Racecourse and Broadmeadows due to a track fault at Essendon. Passengers travelling between Ascot Vale and Essendon are advised to board a train to Newmarket and change for a replacement bus stopping all stations to Essendon. Passengers travelling between Essendon and Broadmeadows are advised to board a train to Flemington Racecourse and change for an express replacement bus to Essendon, then stopping all stations to Broadmeadows. Train services will run between Broadmeadows and Craigieburn. Extended journey time of approx. 90 minutes. We are assessing the situation and will advise when trains will resume. Please listen for announcements or speak to station staff for more information.

    station announcement (at Craigieburn): trains up to 1 hour late
    services scheduled were 3:31 and 3:41

    Footscrazy lived up to it's moniker yesterday evening after the Werribee and Williamstown lines were suspended due to an overhead problem at Yarraville

    I didn't know about it until I got off a V/Line train to connect to a Metro service to North Melbourne, I checked the PTV app before I arrived and worked out that I needed to head for P1, when we arrived I glanced over from P4 to see 500 or more people waiting on the platform.

    I got a bus.

    Been some big delays on almost all metro lines this morning.  Hurstbridge line had several cancellations and changes to the timetable.  What gives?

    Nothing is reflecting on the Metro website. Website says every line is "good service" except for Mernda line. Major Delays • 2 hours agoDelays up to 20 minutes citybound between Mernda and Clifton Hill due to an equipment fault at Mernda.     Gotta love Metro's "20 min delays".

    It took nearly 45 mins to travel from Rushall to Jolimont earlier this morning, where myself and a lot of others got off onto trams - there were still trains stopped at every signal between there and Flinders St moving at stop/start snail's pace.  Must have either been a signal failure coming into Flinders or a Metrol failure affecting some lines worse than others.

    Why doesn't Metro get a fine for inaccurate reporting of delays Mad? Or is it that they actually have no idea where the trains are/how long the journeys are taking?

    Probably the latter. The poor schmuck with the Twitter password would most likely have access to real-time train positions and not too much else. It's not like they'd be sitting in the middle of Metrol, hearing every word from the controllers. Very hard to predict delays from that position.

    (Yes, I know that overseas operators tend to have better access to this kind of information, but I'll take a punt and say they aren't trying to piece together data from such a horrific mishmash of control systems, let alone report it in any sort of high-level format for customer service operators.)
