Metro chief executive Andrew Lezala said the company had great experience in fixing faulty pantographs.http://www.theage.com.au/national/rail-woes-mount-for-metro-20091201-k3vl.html
Mr Lezala highlighted $100 million in extra funding provided to Metro by the Government to maintain Melbourne's train fleet that would mean such faults would become less common.
Yesterday's shutdown on the Glen Waverley line happened after a damaged pantograph ... caused a major short circuit. The fault caused damage to five kilometres of overhead power lines between Gardiner and Burnley stations.

Police ordered Metro keep the train at the station, which has blocked outbound services.

Teen hit by train in Melbourne
A 13-year-old boy is in a serious condition at the Melbourne Royal Children's Hospital after he was struck by a suburban train during an alleged graffiti attack.
Paramedics were called to Glenbervie railway station in Essendon shortly after 5:00pm (AEDT) to treat the boy, who suffered upper body injuries.
Police said a train driver saw the boy and a friend, 17, jumping between carriages on a stationary train at the station and alerted inspectors.
It is believed the boys were tagging the train, Victoria Police spokeswoman Senior Constable Alison Noonan said.
"The inspectors asked the boys to return to the platform. However one jumped on to the tracks and ran off while the other jumped off the train, onto the tracks and was struck by an oncoming southbound train," she said.
The injured boy was found between the trains and was placed on a spinal board and carried out by paramedics and firefighters.
Police have since spoken to the 17-year-old boy.
Trains on the Craigieburn line were stopped in both directions as fire rescue and ambulance crews worked to remove the injured boy.
A V/Line P class and H cars train is in the dirt, blocking access to Melbourne Yard. It will be fun for Metro with trains needing to shunt out.
Will more than likely use Craigieburn/ Broadmeadows and Bayswater
