it was a case of people had doubts of the g sets doing that run, says wiki, they did, and apparently people had doubts about it by OSCars. they did it, and apparently, cityrail have ordered 2x2 OSCars for that run.
That's the first I've heard of that
.....if commuters like the V-sets then why trash them??? If the government is eager to bring in some Oscars then the suburban network will be happy to take them for sure, to replace some of the aging silver sets. (L,R and S sets?? I'm not entirely sure)
thats what the A sets are for!!
Yes, the A sets are intended to replace the L, R & S sets. The Oscars, on the other hand are primarily intended for outer-suburban runs (e.g; Gosford, Wyong, Springwood, Wollongong, Port Kembla, etc. (I myself feel that Kiama is a bit too far for the H sets - but then, where to get extra V's?)). Here on the Short North, I suspect that some in RailCorp would like to run Oscars all the way to Newcastle, as the el-cheapo V set replacement option. However, that would be to fly in the face of political reality - when one considers the distances involved, it is highly unlikely that passengers would (or should) consider normal and acceptable a 100-160km journey in what is - essentially - a glorified suburban train. bowralcommuter's
signature, I note, says "...unsatisfied with CityRail and RailCorp...". If Oscars replacing V sets comes to pass, he won't be the only one!
